Won't the Gjally nerf backfire?
Now with Gjally's wolfpack rounds getting nerfed and its effectivity reduced. I've thought about something: won't most people want even more people with a gjally after the nerf? Before, few people would accept others without it because they already had enough firepower to deal with the objective.
After the nerf have been applied, I believe the it will only promote even more elitism amongst the already toxicated player base. Everytime I visit the LFG forums a lot of the post contain a "must have gjally" requirement.
By nerfing the wolfpack rounds, people will feel the need to only accept gjallys to accumulate for the nerf introduced, thus resulting a backfire to this nerf's original intent. To eliminate exclusivity.
Any thoughts?
Edit 1: To admit, I've never owned a Gjally before and I've played since day one. I have already had much trouble trying to get into a raid or PoE team.

10 RepliesI won't do raids with anyone without Ghally now, sorry. Not fair and sounds douche like but, I'd rather make up the damage I lost for the nerf. Also let me know when a heavy surpasses Ghally.

Not really because if the damagenis reduced enough, then an exotic special or even a high damage exotic primary can do the same damage as a gjaly over a bit of time.

2 RepliesHonestly I've played since Day One, I haven't gotten a Gally yet and I probably never will. I've never really cared much until recently when it became the last Exotic I need for Heavy (Besides a Thunderlord), after the nerf though I'm not sure how much I am actually going to care about it now. However it could very well lead to the elitist people being even more stingy, or it could lead to other Rocket Launchers being on par with it. Depends on how deeply effected Wolf Pack rounds is. Luckily I have good friends who don't gate based on Gally's, so I've never had to worry about groups. Then again if I didn't have friends still playing Destiny, I probably wouldn't be either. So this just gives some people even more incentive to leave Destiny behind. I won't be one of them though. Bring on TTK!

They brag about everyone that don't have one was exclued. Now, it will be even more excluded. They could simply put matchmaking for everything, instead they nerf the crap out of the ONLY thing that speed the time to kill thoose damm buletsponge bosses. I'm no way payng for the TTK.

Interesting thought, I've never had a Gally either, but I've always got by with my Truth or my Upercut Payload that both have tracking and Tripod. I too have had problems when looking for groups with everyone "requiring" a Gally. Not sure if this will stop it or not.

It'll only backfire on the elitist. They'll keep requiring Ghorns. Bungie nerfs it even more. The elitist now lost their crutch and will be kicked out of raids because they suck :D

2 RepliesAll rocket launchers are getting a buff, so not sure how much it will effect the total damage. Someone worked out the total damage for a full loadout for each exotic heavy, and gally wasn't top of the list anyway.

I think the problem comes down to balancing the bosses, not the weapons. Gally deals more than double the damage per shot of any other weapon so far, which will heavily impact the time to kill a boss. They either set bosses impossible to down without a Gally, or they set decent bosses that get creamed by a fireteam of Gallies. Which just stuffs the game up. Even more.

I doubt it. However if this does end up happening I see only two solutions. Admit they -blam!-ed up and undo the nerf and have xur smelly ghorn. And more likely nerf it even more to the point where it's not needed period

10 RepliesThe Gjallarhorn nerf is going to backfire horribly. The people who feel they [i]need[/i] Gjallys to get through endgame activities will now be even more stingy with allowing those in that don't have one. No longer can one person with Gjally cover the damage output of another without it, and thus it will become a requirement for everyone in the fireteam. The nerf that they thought would diminish its exclusivity is actually going to promote [i]more[/i] elitism.

Gally deals around 8.9k damage lets say the nerf drops it down to 6k damage it still is the hardest hitting rocket launcher and a beast but, think about it from a smart stand point other weapons will be used because there is a less power gap in power. Every other exotic now has a higher chance of usage because of this I can use the patience and time for bosses sense the gally is less effective while the PoT has invis and perks that could prove to be more useful than gally's straight up damage. An example could be WOULD you rather have something that deals 100 damage but stuns the enemy for a time period or something that deals 200 damage? I would rather go with the stun because from a tactical stand point it is far more useful than increased damage. So tell me again how in the hell was this bs elitist theory made up again -.-? Because it seems stupid.

Only terrible players will still cling to the Gjallarhorn as a requirement for entry to anything. It is not necessary. For anything. At all. It never was. Any fireteam with reasonable weapons and communication can get through any activity in the game. Period. If someone posts "must have gally" on an LFG, that's how you know they are garbage and you should absolutely avoid them. We need to punish these people and phase them out of the community entirely. They are toxic.

It will only lead to more people crying that this PoE boss is unbeatable or that Nightfall is impossible, meaning more PvE content will be nerfed, meaning the Gjallarhorn nerf will be relatively pointless. Meh.

It shouldn't matter. Currently the GH is a corner-cutting solution for quickly advancing through certain parts of the game. And sure the time to kill will have played a smaller role in nerfing the wolfpack rounds. But on the other hand, increasing the blast radius of all rocket launchers will ensure other options become more viable. This will allow more people to do enough damage and therefor prevent the utterly stupid requirements some are imposing on possible fireteam members;

No this logic makes no sense. Only reason people required it was because it vastly outclassed all other guns. With that gone it makes more sense to equip other weapons that increase your total damage output, not your short time DPS.
