Bungie nerfs Gjally, Gjally still reigns supreme.
Gjally does less DPS, so it'll become more relevant, since everyone in your fireteam will need one to output as much DPS as possible.
More and more posts with Gjally only will emerge on LFG.
JOB WELL DONE BUNGIE! Or am I missing something?
@Deej or @Cozmo : you're reading this? Elitism will prevail unfortunately. Go report that back to your game designers ;-)
Let me make it easy for you, lets say we need 225k damage to kill a boss. Gjally does 9k while other rockets do 6k. Everyone has 5 rockets, so a gjally user would do 45k damage, while a non gjally user will do 30k damage. Right now we need 3 gjally users and 3 different rockets to kill him. Now if we make ghorn do 40k per 5 shots, we'll need 4 gjally users and 2 regular rocket launchers and some extra shots from primary to kill it. Most people would go for the easy way where they don't need to shoot extra shots with primaries, that would mean people would require 5 gjallys to do what could've been done with 3 gjallys in the past.[
Important note: the patch hasn't come out yet, we're discussing different outcomes. Who knows what will happen next.

this is so true

It makes me so angry that so many peoples logic is, "These people who didn't get lucky to have a specific weapon in the game are all the reason my crutch got nerfed because I saw a couple posts about nerfing the Ghorn where the author didn't have one." Point A. Bungie didn't nerf the Ghorn because of certain posts, it was because of their own data. (Look at the patch notes!). They already knew Ghorn was the most used PVE weapon. Point B. Not every single person without a Ghorn complained about it, so you don't need to kick every one for it. Point C. If you want to have Ghorns on your team for damage output reasons, get good. You really can't make up for some lost damage? Try some other weapons! Case in point: you're all idiots with no ground to stand on. (Metaphorically, in case you couldn't get that through your thick skull)

Amen brother

Exactly

May as well just change the item colour of the ghorn from yellow, to purple when TTK drops! I thought exotic weapons was supposed to feel god like and OP? it's a EXOTIC!!!
-
Well said and good reasoning. Am utterly surprised bungie ain't bright enough to see this...O well if nerf goes ahead am sure they will realise soon enough.

Edited by shonik09: 7/18/2015 3:34:09 PMYou do realise if they nerf it into the ground, that will completely stop any kind of gally elitism? Of people are gonna behave like this, I wouldn't be surprised if they nerfed wolfpacks by 80% or more.
-
They are nerf in it to do similar DPS to other launchers so that people are not forced to use it and have the freedom to use other exotics.. Do people not realize that?
-
Imagine what a couple of Xur-Ghorn sales would have done. Elitism would have declined.
-
Edited by Achomaniac: 7/18/2015 9:44:26 PMExactly. The "elitism" argument is just PR spin. If they wanted to stop people without Gjally from being excluded.....just sell it. They just didn't like the way we're playing their game again.
-
I think you're right, only going to make more of a need for it.

Bump this

The nerf can't be that significant. Wolfpack round might go from 300 to 150, in which case it's still a superior launcher.
-
I agree with you. The highest damage gun now does a little less the lfg people will absolutely force everyone to have one. Whereas before I saw lots that let it slide as long as there was 3-4 for a fire team of 6 or 1-2 in a 3 person fire team. But to compensate the lower damage now I can imagine it will have to be at least 5 for a fire team of 6 and most likely 3 for a team of 3. In no way will just nerfing a gun make it less desirable, now if they had buffed like dragons breath or something then less people would use gally. But gally is such a easy gun to point-shoot-forget and it does so good damage that even if it does less, unless they make the wolf pack rounds do next to nothing, why not keep using it. And I think lots of lfg groups will still force people to have it, just now they won't let a few tag along that don't now.
-
All they had to do was have xur sell it, problem solved.
-
I don't have a gjally but I'm am completely against the nerf because the logic is terrible. Here's my point if the people who complain about a weapon being to powerful are bad at this game or if they are not good with let's say the thorn or the last word and then bungie nerfs these particular guns and then said complainers play the game and are still not good what was solved? absolutely nothing except to piss off the people who have grinded to get these weapons. So all it does is punish the good players and then does nothing to elevate the bad players so everyone loses. Currently there is an even playing field and after the nerf it will still be a level playing field so nothing has been gained but god forbid we introduce logic into this. Signed someone who doesn't have a gjally but if I ever get 1 would prefer that it isn't ruined.
-
Don't you mean the "immature and have no balls" group?
-
I hadn't thought about this but it's probably right. Bungee has really poo'd the bed of late.
-
Even though I am an Elitist, I will still help out a fellow Guardian without one. Just fire more Ghorns BABY!
-
Bungie Logic: Nerf GHORN. Expect decline in elitist. Doesn't get what is expected. My Logic: Buff ghorn slightly. Reduced elitists. Become less dependent on 3 ghorns. Profit.

Go -blam!- yourself

The Gjallarhorn elitism got completely out of hand when the House of Wolves/Prison of Elders was released. Cast our minds back to the VoG and Crota's End glory days. Gjallarhorn was never a requirement for VoG. As for Crota's End, yes the elitism was there. However, most fireteam leaders were content with 2-3 Gjallarhorns in the team and after that the rest just made up the numbers. Now with the PoE where the loot is bad and there are more difficult/convoluted final boss encounters (particularly Skolas) with more unnecessary ads and a reduced fireteam compared to the Raids, no wonder its Gjallarhorn only. Yes the PoE can be completed without Gjallarhorn, but I think the main reason it is required in most fireteams as people want to be done as fast as possible. People are not playing Destiny for the enjoyment anymore, it is a unexplainable obsession in trying to acquire particular loot as fast as possible. Don't believe me? Start the VoG Fresh and the majority of the Fireteam will quit at the Gorgon Maze. Go onto the LFG/forums and most people are looking for Skolas CP, Gorgon Maze, Atheon, Deathsinger or Crota. Gjallarhorn's Wolf Pack Rounds will be nerfed. It's initial blast hits as hard as any other Rocket Launcher in the game, but the Wolf Pack Rounds are where it shines. Apparently they are reducing the WP Rounds damage by 33% in which it will still remain supreme. What will now happen is that Raids teams will now require 6 players with Gjallarhorn to make up for the lost damage if only 2 or 3 players were using it.

Let's enjoy our Gally before it's getting nerf as hell

Here is the issue. Nerfing wolf pack rounds, even by 75% still makes gjallarhorn the most powerful rocket launcher in the game. So I do believe you are correct, elitism may end up worse than it already is. Unless they nerf it into obscurity. Like what they did to auto rifles and fusion rifles.... So I really wouldn't put it past bungie to actually do that.
