Can someone seriously justify the Black Hammer nerf?

I really don't see why this is getting nerfed at all. Who can convince me? It makes no sense...

  • It's because they are nerfing anything that's realy good before ttk so you use new weapons !!! That's all it is basicaly a way to try get rid of people using the best guns because they can't come up with better ones !!! Hence how rubish most how weapons are !!!!

      • The problem with Black Hammer is not that it's got incredible Damage or OP so to speak but it's ability to cause massive damage almost infinitely. For example the Devil Walker in the Devil's Lair strike. When getting to this encounter everyone I know will always pull out their Black Hammer to destroy it. Why? Because it can continue to Critically hit the boss all the time without the need to reload or stop firing. Yes it's the perk of the weapon but it also means that you can go and fire this gun all the time without having any consequence. Surely it's boring to encounter the same boss with the same weapon all the time? Black Hammer is the go to for Fallen Walkers and Archon Priests just because it can essentially deny any offensive moved from that enemy. Black Hammer will still be powerful it's own regard, but now you won't have the capability to fire infinitely. Which I believe is good. You'll be using a variation of weapons and snipers instead of just the Black Hammer is the go to boss takedown weapon.

        • Did Bungie not realize the potential of the Black Ham when they designed it? I bet they would be that parent who gives their kid a toy while they're shopping, and then puts it back on the shelf when they leave.

          • It's a legendary that essential has an exotic perk. I don't like the fact they're changing it but I understand why they are. It is a ridiculously powerful legendary

            • If you want to know why it's getting a nerf, it's because it's overused. In PvE there's close to no variety in weapon choice. Why use another gun when one clearly is more powerful? It's what happened to Gjallarhorn and thorn. The game is moving towards more diversity in loadouts, and that's not a bad thing by a long shot.

                I don't seem to understand the ice breaker or the black hammer nerf. Oh wait longevity to make us play longer so they can boast about how many people log in and how many hours they play......... plus it's that whole attitude they had from the start we want the players to play how we want them to play. It's a -blam!-ing shooter who the -blam!- cares if we burn thru the boss isn't that the point. It's not like we are running around with swords and we need to see the boss mechanics. why do we need to waste any more fighting the same old strikes we've been doing. Weapon like the ib and bh made doing the same ole mundane thing go just a little faster. Plus if ur not in cover the boss will absolutely shit on you no matter how gud u claim to be so why not sit back and snipe. Nope we are supposed to just jump out there and go all rambo. End rant

                The people saying BH has infinite bullets need to stfu. You're making it seem like it had infinite bullets regardless of gameplay. Getting the perk to work in pvp is very unlikely and the perk was mainly used on bosses in pve. So I'm sorry the weapon was so "OP" at the end of a mission

              • Bungie does not want players to infinitely stun a boss. Black hammer is a "legendary" sniper rifle with an exotic like perk. It's makes it realistic without pulling bullets out of thin air.

                • How they should have needed the gun in any form or fashion it should have been it's stability. Harder to hit crits that way.. Not change the mechanics of the Perk..

                • They're trying to reduce our completion time in PvE. As further evidenced by Gjallarhorn and IB nerfs. I for one am thankful. PvE content becomes mundane far too fast and these nerfs will prevent that somewhat.

                  • My theory, to make us utilize the new weapons that will be coming out. Bungie said, "that it would be pretty boring if you were to use the same guns for 10 years". I might be wrong though. If that was the case, I think we should be granted the ability to preserve one or two guns; kinda like a legendary weapon that has been passed down,, nostalgic for sure!

                      • Ok yea the perk is op on bosses, but since I only do strikes for the rewards at the end, I want to do it as fast as possible. If there was more strikes, I would be ok with the patch, but since there's only like 6 strikes, I get bored as hell and don't play it for fun, just for the rewards.

                      • No because it is not. Cannot compare to IB as it need no skill to generate ammo. Pls dont waste my time if the boss just stand in front of us and easy to hit its critical. It is not funny. A rerollable sniper can get triple tap and I spend 3 months to grind this shit. I rather use iron banner sniper with field scout. IB nerf is also bullshit as it has already slow to generate ammo. It just make the boring fight longer. Pls. make IB can pick up ammo if u would like to do that.

                        Simple. Any weapon that grants essentially infinite ammo for skilled precision should only be reserved for an Exotic weapon, and it already has: The Ice Breaker. For a Guardian who's skilled with precision shots, there is almost zero downsides for using the Black Hammer to its fullest potential. There needs to be a downside. No reload is good enough. Infinite ammo is not. If the Ice Breaker and Black Hammer both attacked Valus Ta'arc, the Black Hammer would still outdamage the Ice Breaker in a given minute, assuming all shots are precision shots.
