I'll bump this post again, but I'm starting to wonder what the actual value of Etheric Light is going to be.
DeeJ hinted that our current weapons and gear won't ascend any further and if that's the case, why grind to take any of our weapons to 365? It also means that unless they change what Etheric Light does, it would be meaningless in TTK.
There's just way too much crap they're cryptic about or tell us we'll "talk more later" and no real information on what they're doing with this game.

Bump the bump

Next step is to introduce guns that you need for the new TK mobs, so that all old guns will be made useless. Something like that I imagine, Bungie tends to force players to play the way they want. Seeing as the focus is on getting players to buy TK, they're going to make the handicap heeeeuuuuuuge so that players feel forced to switch to new ones.. just my opinion

I also believe this is the direction they will take it. But, I find it hard to believe that the ability to ascend old gear will be removed. This will effectively make the old raids unplayable as players won't want to play for gear that is light years behind gear that can be bought at even the vendors. This will remove a fairly significant chunk of the playable content from rotation. They either have a plan for the old raids that we aren't privy to or they are ditching the old raids all together.

Even if the rumors are true, wouldn't it be nice to ascend all your old raid gear to current levels? This is what I'm aiming for. But with only two months until TTK comes out, I do not believe my idea will even be considered yet alone implemented. I believe their full attention is on the launch and marketing of TTK. I also can't believe they are going to make all the old raid gear obsolete and therefore making the raids themselves obsolete. I also don't understand why they would implement this new ascension ability and then remove it one DLC later.

Because Bungie.

It just doesn't seem like a good marketing strategy to make the entire Year 1 armory obsolete. I don't know if they believe this will force players into the new content, or what. I'm still going to ascend any old raid gear I've got or will get. But my HoW gear will be deleted as soon as I get replacements for them from TTK. My raid gear seems like the only stuff worth keeping.

It took me until the last 3 weeks to get weapon sets that really suit me perfectly in PvP. No Thorn, no Matador or anything else people claim you "must have" and it's made PvP much more fun to play how I like rather than be forced into this or that weapon style. The fact that they're even considering forcing us to find new weapons again is almost enough on its own to go no further. Why let me craft my armory just to remove it's effectiveness? For fun? Because that's not fun. Giving me new shit to kill with my perfectly crafted weapons? Now that's fun.

Actually, I had a helluva Friday night playing VoG. I picked up the following items on hard mode for two characters: The Last Word Paredyth's Revenge Atheon's Epilogue x2 Hezen Vengeance Corrective Measure Fatebringer But no armor. Best day by far playing this game. So I need quite a bit of Etheric Light to get this stuff to 365.

Hopefully it's not all for naught in 2 months, but that's pretty awesome. Only did VoG once on Atheon HM. No weapons dropped, just the ship and a helm. Would love the Fusion Rifle from there though (actual, not Vex).
