Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.
Thanks again, guardians.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

PS4, it has better graphics across the board, it doesn't have a percentage of its power reserved for an already defunct camera. its hard drive can be changed with ease rather than you having to spend wedge on a USB 3.0 external hard drive. It is more reliable, I sell both consoles and the return rate is 4/1 against Xbox, if its not the console its the pad or the headset. You don;t need to pay £20 for stupid headset adapter that breaks on a PS4. PS4 had a problem initially with pads and the rubber splitting but I've not had one of those return in a good few months. Xbox one and the playing of old games. Lol, it'll fry, all M'Soft have done is built an emulator on top of the OS which will just heat the machine up more than it needs to be. As a seller I am unhappy about it as machines will break and M'soft will not take responsibility for it claiming the machine has been abused.

Get an Xbox, -blam!- extra content a year early.

If you have 360, then Xbox One If you have PS3, then PS4

I have a ps4 BUT!!!!!! Xbox one now has backwards compatibility and since you own a 360 and I'm sure plenty games. You have to be an idiot to not get the Xbox One. And yes I'm extremely jealous of that feature.

A toaster. Best graphics and it makes breakfast

Ps4. Less kids on playstation then xbox one. Servers have issues sometimes but tell me a console that doesnt. Better graphics. Friendly people. Xbox one kids think their the best and very cocky thinking they have a master console. Both consoles are fine imo. I've just been a Sony fanboy cause my console actually last longer then 6 months unlike all the xboxs I've had.

Wouldnt advise becoming a filthy Xbox scrub, so the logical choice is the ps4. Simples

Xbox one. Its getting some seriously powered updates real soon. DirectX12, Cortana and Win10 streaming, not to mention a new UI for system interfaces. Since you're a member anyways, the transition is simple. Graphics are barely noticable and has zero bearing in any of the new titles.

Edited by coppertop1124: 7/11/2015 6:55:01 PMGet what your friends have. As for PSN being down all the time and not being able to play? Not as much as xboners like to make it out to be. Haven't been able to play more due to Bungie's sh1t being down than PSN.

It's all personal preference. PS4 has better graphics but Xbox One has a better online experience and you can multitask which sounds lame but it's actually really cool and surprisingly useful. Also the exclusives may change your mind on which one to get so I recommend looking into those. I personally chose Xbox One and am happy with my choice but it's all a matter of opinion.

Dude, xbone, no contest. You'd have to start Destiny all over on ps4, and you'll get backwards compatibility with the games you already have. And I'm a Sony boy, so no fanboy shit lol. It's the right answer for the you to stay on the dark side ;)
