Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.
Thanks again, guardians.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

You look adorable today

Ello chap

The upcoming integration with Windows 10, too. If SmartGlass is already that seamless, this should be a big plus.
-
Xbox One backwards compatibility is coming in the next few months
-
It all depends on what games you like really.. Especially since your friends are split 50/50... Since you already seem well versed with the xbo... Take a look at the ps4 exclusives and features and see if you like them better.
-
XB1 would be the smoothest option for reasons you stated, and you get to keep your Destiny progress. PS4 would only be worth it if the (very slight) edge in graphics or other PS4 exclusive games are worth starting from scratch (which I'm not knocking - could be fun!)
-
They said in e3 that you will be able to use your old games in a couple of months
-
Stick to xbox since your comfortable and already paying for live

Congrats on the baby on the way. Personally I would go with xbox because your already playing destiny and wouldn't want to start from scratch and I love my Xbox. Sport that's all I got right now. On another note say bye bye to raiding and any difficult time consuming end game activities while watching your child.
-
I would say go Xbox One so you don't have to completely regrind Destiny.
Also, congrats on the baby!
You look beautiful today

congrats and whatever you choose!

I'm a ps4 user and say you should stick with Xbox just to save a little bit of money and the grind
-
X1 for the fact that you still play destiny and you won't have to grind all over again. Backwards compatibility let's you keep the games you love to play and only have to sell the console if you need diaper money or something lol. Definetly an X1

Xbone. I'm upgrading before the summer is out as well. If you flip straight from 360 to Xbone, your characters are saved, just gotta download Destiny and stuff. You do have to buy the disc Destiny again, but the DLC should be free (my best friend got screwed and had to buy the DLC again, but he's rich ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). Also, the GameStop offer currently going on is that you can trade in a 360 for 150$ credit or so towards an Xbone. Might as well buy the MC edition. Also, buying an Xbone should grant you a 40$ GC (check on that I may be wrong), which you can use to purchase Destiny or save for TTK. All in all, in stick with Xbox. Plus if you need it, I'll be there with you by summers end! Take care man.

i get hatemail on x1 but not ps4. you need to experience dark souls 3
-
Both. I have 6 next gen consoles ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2 ps4's, 3 Xbox ones, and a gaming computer
You look beautiful today

Xbone cause I'm on it

Get the xbox one. I have both. Ps4s psn service is constantly down for no reason. User interface is garbage. Psn store is crap. Players on ps4, so far from what i experienced off of weeks so far, are lazy and or stupid. Youll find a lot more active players on xbox one. Until the ps4 gets its stuff updated to todays standards, its not worth paying for it.
-
I would recommend the PS4.. Mainly because I'm a "fanboy". But since you already have a Xbox I would go with that. I'm not 100% sure of your progress with transfer. But in the end it is a personal choice. If I were you I would do some research to find the pros and cons of each system and see which one is more you cup of tea.

Go xbox one because you can transfer your character if you do ps4 you will loose your stuff
