Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.
Thanks again, guardians.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

Even as a PlayStation guy, I say get the XBox One. You can transfer all your old stuff.

You look beautiful today

Edited by Chilly S0ul: 7/10/2015 6:28:17 AMThe reason I made the switch from 360 to a ps4 is as follows. The console is about gaming. It doesn't have useless apps. It's software is way better than the one. It doesn't have limited storage space or require game installation. My nephew has 5 games and is using 60% + of his hard drive space. Xbox one is slow and frustrating with lots of issues. My nephew actually never plays his Xbox one because of how frustrating it is. PlayStation plus is cheaper per year sub. Destiny exclusives, bloodborne, final fantasy 7 remake, no man's sky, the last guardian, the last of us, ether one, and many many more experiences. One of the best things about the ps4 aside from the hardware and software being objectively superior and still improving is no Halo and very little cod. I love to log on and not be bombarded by friends activity in these shallow games and adverts everywhere. PS4 is the superior console this generation for gamers.

you would probably be better off passing over you're progress to your xbox one
-
I'm on PS4, but in your shoes I'd definitely go with the Xbox One. All your progress carries over. You get a more reliable network. The PS4 controller experiences so much wear and tear, and has a 6hr battery life compared to the Xbox One controller's ~50hr battery life. Yes, the PS4 is a bit more powerful, and has destiny exclusives. But the PS4 doesn't have many other exclusives currently. Like with the last gen consoles, Sony will take 2 or 3 years to really hit their stride.

PS4, as for Xbox one backward compatible they have not given any further info at the moment but my guess is might only be compatible with digital version but I could be wrong and hope they don't go that direction.
-
Go PS4 I'm a ex xbox360 guy and went to Ps4. Best move I made.
-
Since you've played on xbox, it makes sense to stay in xbox. If you switch to ps4 you'll have to restart with new characters. Both systems have their positives and negatives, I wouldn't say one is overall better than the other.
-
Ps4 if you're a regular destiny player. Xbox if anything else.
-
Backwards compatibility for xbone is not officially released yet, but there's a beta going on right now for it, so don't sell your games just yet.
-
Ex-Xbox user here. Really like my ps4 but I've always preferred the Xbox controllers. They always felt better in my hands, plus they seemed more durable.
-
Haha at everyone just saying to go with whatever consol they bought. My advice since you asked for it...if it's mainly for Destiny go PS4 because of the many exclusives. Even taken king will have PS4 exclusive content. Buy the system your friends play on so you can play with someone.
-
I would advice the xbone, as you already have a 360 account so your progress will carry over.
-
You should get an Ouya its way better than either console.
-
Get an Xbox One. The PS4 better graphics are not that noticeable. Right now backwards compatibility is only for Preview Program members, and will be out in the fall time, and right now there's not that many games yet. But your Destiny character will transfer over to the Xbox One, and you can also transfer your character from the 360 to the Xbox One, or PS4. But I don't believe your progress from the Halos will transfer over to the Master Chief Collection, but I'm positive that the older Halos will be in the backwards compatibility in the near future. And don't listen to the people who hate on, and say that the Xbox One is a "sh!tty console", because it's really not bad at all, and I actually like it better than my PS4. I hope this answered your questions.

PS4 Better graphics Better exclusives Early dlc
-
Xbox 1. It will have backwards compat.
-
Just depends on which one has exclusives that you want

Edited by YouKnowWho2000: 7/10/2015 6:00:41 AMIf you go to PS4 you won't get your characters transferred, but if you go X1 you will because you started on 360
-
Get what ever you have friends on.. otherwise you will be playing a different console and be wishing you had the other one.

Edited by rickyking300: 7/10/2015 5:57:36 AMWell from a PS4 user, I would say I am a hardcore gamer, mainly destiny, and from my experiences, I've only had 3 issues so far, including the Christmas incident and every day till today, with the PSN servers. Sure, it may have been down, but many of those times were planned maintenance. Since you're becoming a dad soon, I would assume you will become a much more casual player than normal, so server issues won't affect you as much as everyone else here is saying. The graphics are also slightly better, with it being more obvious on larger screens. The home is definitely much different than Xbone, but it's not as cluttered. However for a new user, I can see how it may take getting used to. Party works fine, I've yet to have issues with parties. It has a rest mode, where if an update on a game is out, it will download on its own in rest mode, but idk if that requires PSN+ ( but I expect you would have this ). If this also exists on Xbone, then you can just ignore that :P . In rest mode, it can also charge your controller, and anything else that charges with a USB. The charger for the controller also seems to fit into most android phones, so that's another plus haha. Overall, if you don't think it'll be hard to grind your current gear back up, I would personally recommend PS4, but its definitely hard to decide.

get what your friends are on
-
To answer the 2 questions, Yes, you can transfer you characters from 360 to the One. You cannot, however, transfer them to the PS4. Microsoft is currently working on a backwards compatibility system, however as of right now not many games are available, and none of the three mentioned are currently backwards compatible.
-
There is no difference between xb1 ana ps4 graphics. The choice is up to you. Personally, I recommend you xb1 but ps4 is a good console too

Shitty online service for days funny thing is there is a petition going on for better online services XD and overheating issues not much of exclusives & no backwards compatibility and believe me all the people saying it has higher graphics in real term it's 10% more powerful than xbone all the negative points for 10% powerful console you choose
