Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.
Thanks again, guardians.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

For me, the PS4 has a better DVR. 12 (or 14, I forget) minutes at the press of a button vs. 40 seconds or the last 3 and 5 minutes after fumbling though menus. But a major draw to Xbox One is built in Skype. Parties are okay, but I'm in some Skype chat groups and I can have calls with friends. Only downside is you can't start calls on the Xbox if there are more than 4 people in the group already, otherwise, someone on a PC needs to start the call. Unfortunately/fortunately for me, I started on PS4, got the sweet original iron banner cape, tumbler sparrow and the beta player emblem, then all my PS4 friends quit playing, and I can't bring those things to Xbox One. But I have tons of friends on Xbox who play regularly, and I haven't touched my PS4 in a month or two. I would say go for Xbox One. But go where ever you have more friends to play with.

Looks like x box 1

Well if you've already started on a Xbox console it's really a no brainer to get an Xbox One if you want to keep your current characters.

I would stick with the Xbox one and stay in the same console family. It also depends on your gane style. From what people have discussed xbox is the competitive players dream and Sony is more story based games. I personally would stick with xbox as they now have backwards compatibility once fall hits which is awesome and then it also has expandable memory which the PS4 does not.

Xbox one, if you like Microsoft get it, but remember all that includes using Internet you have to pay for, and for ps4, you only need to pay to play online, you don't have to pay to watch YouTube, video chat, etc.

Xbox one,why lose all your years of gaming on Xbox just to play destiny on a slightly more powerfu l console

It is always a question of exclusives. if the MS exclusives are more appealing, you'll get better value buying it.
-
Xb1. You already have a 360
-
Wii u or wait for ps5 it should be out soon
-
Ps4 your already a distinct player more exclusives otherwise there's nothing especial about either.
-
Playstation has Planetside 2... Definitely best free game ever
-
2 words: Rocket League
-
It's easy, if yo are a beast a pvp and love a challenge go Xbox. However If you struggle with pvp and really want to make it easier go to ps4
-
How old are you if your over 18 ps4. If your under 18 please go xbox
-
Xbox 1 is going to become backwards compatible soon and yes your character transfers with you live account. Also id say xbox1 mostly because I don't like play station controlers

Hawkmoon

PS4 is slightly better than Xbone, but Sony is bankrupt and Microsoft has billions in cash reserves. Xbox Live is way better than PSN as well. There won't be another generation of consoles though and I think Microsoft will go with an upgradable gaming PC device.

Get a Wii U. Play games in 4K resolution, has the best network to play all of your MP games and more. Japam or Japan encourages civilians to buy and marry an Ouya for the price of ¥2100

Edited by Mr_Messick: 7/15/2015 4:21:59 PMUpon what some may say, choose what you would like best based on their games currently out and or coming out most games are multi platform so in that regard you can't go wrong with either console but if you like one first party titles more that you will never see on the other console is where the true choice comes in. I personally prefer the PS4 first party titles and exclusives which is why I bought one upon release but eventually i will also buy an xbone for their first party titles. Hardware side they are pretty similiar though PS4 specs are slightly more impressive

Ps4, because you get more guns than XBox.

Edited by Captain Kupo: 7/15/2015 5:06:24 PMPs4 Xbone has like 4 exclusives EDIT: OH GOD HOW DID I FORGET SCALEBOUND
-
Your Xbox 360 characters will transfer over if that's what you're asking
-
Get the ps4. If runs smooth and I never had problems. Had my Xbox one and stopped playing it after a week because it couldn't handle basic guide functions. Not to mention playing with friends and party chart was impossible even if you're hardwired to a modem.
-
I'm not voting as they're both so much the same (I have both since launch). If your friends are split 50:50 then maybe the console exclusives could swing it ?
-
ps4 forever! dont think about it. just get out and take it! xD "this is for the players" hahaha
