I know it stands for "Damage Per Second" but when I read it in a sentence it makes no sense to me.
Like if you're giving someone directions to drive somewhere: "You just go down the road on the left and then you Miles Per Hour until you get there." It makes no sense to me.
Can anyone shed some light on what people mean when they say "DPS" as a verb?
Also, to me, it further makes no sense because all damage can be measure by a time interval.

Dank pepes per second

All these answers and none of them really make grammatical sense. . . Wouldn't saying "hit 'em hard!!!" be more appropriate than "Damage per second that boss!" I can only imagine a soldier saying to his buddy, "let's Damage per second the enemy. And by that I mean fire your gun as fast as it can fire. . . .you know, do as much damage as possible, because unless I clearly express what I mean, you might just shoot one bullet and let him kill us both." I think we all know what DPS means, but you make a good point.

Has anyone really been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Edited by Hostile AKs: 7/8/2015 8:47:35 PMBecause it true mmos all damage classes are called "dps classes" so when you want the people who do damage to do damage you say "dps <whatever u want dead>".

It's a colloquial redundancy. It's like saying "hey I need to stop by an ATM machine" or "Please enter your PIN number." However, it does serve to make an important distinction from just saying "damage." Saying "ok boss shield is down, damage the boss" isn't as specific as "DPS the boss". If I just hit the boss once with my scout rifle, then sure, I damaged the boss. Job well done! But "DPS" implies dealing the maximum sustained damage possible over a period of time.

Hey guys I found the noob who can't google stuff.

Well to use WoW as a reference.. you're either a tank, healer, or DPS. And with that in mind.. you're either going to be told to 'tank the boss', 'heal the tanks' or 'dps the boss'. Seems a lot easier to say than.. "I need you to just be out of the way of the tanks and not blocking the healers while doing as much damage as you possibly can".. don't you think?

As much and as fast as you can.
-
It means hit them hard as you can as fast as you can. Example: You DPS Crota to get his shield down for the sword bearer to come in.
