Tried it for the first time today, pulled off a smooth transition once out of the three times I attempted it.

Edited by l Beanie l: 7/6/2015 7:45:07 AMIn the UK, taking your test in an AUTOMATIC is last resort failure of a driver. Not many people learn to drive auto here, unless they first failed to learn in a manual. It's extremely uncommon to take your test in an automatic car. Even if someone wants an automatic, they'd learn manual, do their test manual, and then buy an automatic.

In my cars that had manual transmissions, I really appreciated it when the vehicles performance allowed the manual transmission to enhance the overall driving experience. For example, I loved my 6-speed manuals in my little 4-cylinder sleepers, I adored the 4 speed in my 1970 Oldsmobile 442. But now that the two cars that I own have no real benefit from a manual (a SUV-Crosssover and a small 5-door hybrid), I don't see any benefit or reason for the inclusion of a clutch and manual transmission. I never got a lot of "fun" out of my old pickup with a "3 on a tree" shifter. I have personal preferences that I place in either transmission, and my choices are based on the vehicle itself and how I am going to drive it. Neither is inherently and always "better", and each has its place in my driving.

Love driving stick

Awwww yeah, wish my current ride was manual... The bike is so, still got it.

Automatics are for dirty fuçking casuals

I learned and took my test in a manual 2001 Audi A4 that I bought a while back, definitely bothersome to learn the basics of the road while worrying about shifting down from fifth into reverse on accident ._. Tons of fun now that I can do it well, especially being able to so easily control my descent on hills without using breaks.

Edited by Moolah4me: 7/4/2015 2:24:27 PMWell my truck is standard so it's kinda necessary. Plus when I'm a rich bastard it'll come in handy with those foreign sports cars

Auto I hate driving as it is
-
Drive manual everyday
-
Learning it
-
I do for work. Otherwise I have an automatic for my personal car.
-
My -blam!-ing face when 'Murrikans are too -blam!-ing lazy to change gears themselves, a feat so simplistic and effortless even I can do it.
-
Don't care enough to learn
-
Cant drive, but when I do I'll be using MANual.
-
I want to learn, but only have automatic cars...
-
not only do i drive manual, i also actively make sure that people who can't drive manual feel bad about themselves. if you drive automatic you're not even a human being, pretty much.
-
Only 48% manual? Wow. Probably >95% of people here in the UK pass their driving tests in manual cars. Never owned an automatic, I've driven a couple but I think I'd find it boring.

Automatic is for casuals
-
I prefer manuals to automatics.

33% don't drive. Wow you are not old enough to be on these forums. And if you're the rare few who don't drive although you can because you're a pussy then you are also not old enough to be on these forums

Yes, but I've been driving on the left for a few years now, so now when I go back I'm always trying to shift with the window switch. And indicate with the wipers.

I'm 16 and can drive both! :)
