So, I thought about where to put this, and my initial thought was in the Gallery, but this isn't a creative idea so much as wishful thinking and a "wouldn't this be cool?" thing.
Anyway, I've been telling all my friends almost since Day One that I would love to see some Exotics based after real world mythological weapons (Gjallarhorn doesn't count, no matter what you say) - Primaries based upon Arthurian legends (Excalibur, Arondight, Galatine, Clarent, Rhongomyniad, Carnwennan), Specials based upon the Ulster or Fenian Cycle (a Sniper called "Gae Bolg" certainly wouldn't go amiss), Heavies based upon mythical Indian doomsday weapons, maybe a Sparrow called "Vimana." This is supposed to be a "mythic scifi," after all, and when you consider that Bungie made Halo with "Cortana" and Marathon with "Durendal," it's not that they're ignorant of those myths and legends, it's just that they've chosen not to use them, for some reason. That's why I finally decided to cook up this one right here, an Exotic Scout Rifle with Arc damage.
Admittedly, the model design isn't the best or most inspired, but I'm not really good at drawing guns anyway - I think this is the second time I've actually tried. Like, ever. On the other hand, I did put some thought into the perks - I asked myself, if I were tailoring this exotic to the Scout Rifle gameplay and a style similar to mine, how would it look? So, I balanced out the unique perk by requiring "precision kills" rather than Bad Juju or Red Death's just "kills." I also liked the idea of being able to pick between Firefly and Explosive Rounds, although in the spirit of some of Bungie's more questionable exotic weapon perks, one is kind of counterintuitive to the unique perk.
Do I expect that Bungie would pick up this design and run with it? No. Would I find it really cool if they did? Definitely.
