Sounds like you're halfway there already with accepting losses. What forced me into being passable was doing the Invective and Bad Juju bounties. I also picked up TLW last time xur sold it. Find the modes that you have the most fun with, I usually do better in control and skirmish. Oh and learning the maps is critical too.
