Okay, so I know I'm little late. I took a long break from Destiny for a while, from before the big Crucible Patch. I used to dig Crucible pretty strongly - I definitely liked it more than CoD, though I wasn't quite Halo-level obsessed with it.
Coming back and playing it some more these last few weeks...this is supposed to be better? This is supposed to be good? I understand that previously the Auto Rifles were just a bit too good, especially the SUROS Regime, compared to the other weapons.
But I don't see how killing the Auto Rifles and severely curtailing weapon diversity made anything better. As dominant as the Auto Rifles were, there was a LOT of weapon variety - different ARs being used, Burst Rifles, a few Scout Rifles and Hand Cannons. Now its Thorn, a handful of Burst or Scout Rifles or GTFO. And the Thorn brings pretty cheesy gameplay too; almost 80% or so of my deaths are not from actually being headshot'd or killed outright by the Thorn but by the burn after people hide, or the burn killing me after I kill them, causing a trade.
Besides the fact that DoT's and burns are bad for Competitive PvP in basically any game. the Thorn and the update seem have created a pretty dull gameplay style in Destiny now; unless you have your Blade Dancer/Striker Super (or you use Shoulder Bash, but that carries a ton of risk) or a very powerful Shotgun, aggression and aggressive tactics have been greatly discouraged in favor of sitting back and taking potshots/ranged duels - being aggressive is basically suicide now.
It seems to me like a small damage over range decrease or a recoil increase to Auto Rifles and a small buff to Burst/Scout Rifles would've been better than dumpstering the Auto Rifles and making the Thorn king.

Borderline Spamming this, but I think they need to rename the game to something more appropriate.

Hey remember when fusion rifles were viable?

Edited by ChronoSIayer: 7/1/2015 1:24:30 AMEhmm..man you forgot, or don't know the real issue..thorn's glitch ;) cheesers use to unequip /equip again thorn to get buffed (last round like) shots.. This week we have been on lighthouse on friday, second try (11games)..then we stopped rushing, just played to have fun (we already have all ptimaries needed).. we met last rounds snipers as always and just played to wreck them so i kept my sniper in some games.. Me sniping vs a thorn wielder: -he takes 181 body shot cuz he fired me making me lose the aim, red life's bar (no shield under 1/6) -i get red life's bar(under 1/4) with 1 only thorn hit because he uses the glitch..seems fair? FIX IT and damn last round snipers.

Well aggressive shotgunning is very in right now. If you aren't running a shotgun on a small map you are missing out on a ton of kills Not to mention how easy it is to get good rolled shotguns. Party crasher and Matadors are everywhere, plus the new monarchy one is amazing as well

Aggressiveness is very good in crucible. I get triple kills with my shotgun going into the entire team.

Edited by bobswerski: 6/30/2015 5:39:12 PMI'm not anywhere near great at PvP and the last IB was the first one I really tried (beta player) but I actually found that playing aggressively worked really well, the worst thing about all those Thorns is their absurd range, IMO. Admittedly I use the last word and love to play aggressively anyway (hanging back is boring and I could care less about my KD) but it seemed like getting up in their faces with TLW erased any advantage they might have had. That worked way better than playing a little more conservatively and using Hawkmoon... Yes I realize I'm only listing HC but I already said I wasn't that good. I've been thinking about trying out the MIDA, I got killed by quite a few of those and it seems like it would work well with an aggressive playstyle as well but not be as hampered at range. And burst rifles are in a really good place, btw.

Just consider a trade, where you get burned and die after getting the kill, as a win for you. I still play hyper-aggressive (my fireteam always points this fact out to me in crucible) and haven't noticed a constant parade of Handcannons. Especially in the last two weeks, I've only seen it spammed consistently in Trials Of Osiris, which made sense given the average sight line range on Black Shield. That is Thorn's only "incredible" stat, is that it can get those DoT-laced shots across long distances without being in a compromised position. But I'd say that at least on the Ps4 matched I've played there is diversity coming back. Maybe its just all the newer players that dont even have a thorn yet, maybe its people just being tired of HC craziness when they just want casual shooter matches. Shoulder Bash is amazing btw, and is the reason you are SAFER being aggressive as a striker. Good luck Guardian, welcome back to the fold.
