The interviewer said it was all good humoured and enjoyable, his favourite out of the E3 interviews he did. I think people are reading this all with the wrong inflection. When I read it, it sounded like two people joking around, not someone telling the community to literally throw money at their screen.
Can we please end this hate? A developer should be expected to talk about a game's development, not the marketing. Talk to DeeJ or ActiVision about that.

That's all from reddit, thought it was worth posting here.
EDIT: the post got moved to their mega thread and I'm mobile now, anyhow, credit to JI for making the reddit post that I quoted.

Dude mine passed 300 comments maybe I'm just popular lmao

It's too late. The revolution has begun.

I think the problem is that people are reading this with their own inner voice, one that is, by default, aggravated and prideful of the self-entitlement that's been running rampant across these forums. I had a feeling that this was, as always, blown out of proportion. Smith seems like a nice guy, and, when you're reading things off the internet, you, or we tend to read with a monotone, do we not? That leaves little room for emotions / emphasis to be shown outside of caps, italics, exclamation points or whatever else it may be, without describing the person's actual behavior being presented [at that time].
-
Reddit? Yeah try that for work cited on a college essay. Just throw money at your screen.

-
I don't see anything wrong with what Smith said
-
I love how this post isn't getting a lot of attention bc it would make the haters look stupid af

Edited by heckford09: 6/23/2015 9:07:42 PMHow much they paid him to make that statement?
-
HAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA wonder how much bungie paid for them to release that statement

Just goes to show you how quickly internet posters turn into rabid 4 year olds. Nice to see informer post this.

Edited by Eden: 6/24/2015 1:16:24 AMUh this could be fake. Bungie/activision could have been doing stuff behind the scenes...

Bump!

Honestly, that's how I read it as well. Like two people joking around. A lot of Smith's answers were unfortunate, and he probably should have thought twice before adopting that kind of tone (although tone is always hard to interpret in print), but overall I think this community is being WAY to hard on him and reading WAY to much into this interview. More than anything, it sounds like he knows theres stuff he's not allowed to say, so he's trying to talk around it. None of that's dismisses the bizarre decision to package digital content that many veteran players will want along side content they've already purchased. I would't characterize that as a slap in the face, the end of the world or a reason to stop playing the game (as I've seen many people do), but it does seem like a huge missed opportunity. I'll be buying the basic TTK package, but Bungie won't be getting any extra money from me. And they could have. I would have happily paid $60 for a more robust digital package.

I don't believe him and its too late.

Made a post about this. No one replied lol.

Damage control

Bump, people need to see this!
-
No no no Only very very few People are allowed to go to press interviews They are told what to say and who to refer certain questions to
-
EG is to blame then for not putting this interview out there in better light. I put EG right up there with Forbes for just creating click bait for this one. They must've made a fortune from all the clicks the last couple of days.

People feel they're getting screwed value wise when it comes to Destiny. His joke was in poor taste for a powder keg topic.
