Depends on the situation. Nothing besides gally is going to let you walk in and kill a PoE boss in 25 seconds but it's not impossible without a gally. IB is a awesome gun and great for all situations, DB wouldn't be my first choice in a Crota fight though, even if that was the only exotic I had lol, but I have used it on him with no problems.
