Everything I already own, plus the Taken King ... Or:
Buy $59.95 for Destiny - original game
Plus $39.95 for expansions I and II
Plus $39.95 for The Taken King 'pre-order'
-------------------wait for it------------------
That's $140 pretty much for the same thing as noobs can get for $60.
Thanks Bungie. I've enjoyed your game. Seriously. It's a lot of fun. I'm not kidding. Check my hours played. More than most, I can assure you that.
And, what's my thanks and appreciation for supporting your game along the way?
Getting screwed over to the tune of more than DOUBLE THE PRICE that someone will pay today.
How the hell does this make sense?
You should actually honour your most loyal customers with The Taken King as a FREEBIE, or at the very least , a DEEP Discount. (Maybe $15 instead of $20, but certainly not increase it to $40, that's just plain back-asswards).
"Here you go guardian. As a token of our appreciation for sticking with us through the first year, for buying the base game, for getting the first two expansions (which may or may not have been disc-locked content), for playing through the glitches as a live feedback forum for our programming errors, for the buffs and the nerfs you've endured, for the lag and for the heavy ammo we took from you every time you spawned... We would like to present you, as a gift,
Your own Edition of The Taken King.
I'm not butt-hurt by what's been paid so far. I'm f-ing choked that a newb will get all that and more for $60.00, and that it will cost me another $40 on top of what's already been paid, just to keep up with the BUNDLE-BABIES of 2015. Should be $15 max (free preferred) for the players who already have all the prerequisites.
BUMP if you agree with even one part of this.
--- out ---
EDIT:
Geezus. For those of you who agreed, thanks for understanding my point. For the rest, here's an example:
You all have cell phones. If you don't, try to imagine having one.
Buy the latest phone. Then pay for an upgrade. Then pay for another upgrade. Then pay for another upgrade.
Your buddy goes and buys the upgraded upgraded upgraded phone, AND GETS THE ORIGINAL PHONE YOU PAID FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE GIVING TO HIM FOR FREE AS WELL... For less than half the price too!! and as a freaking bonus, he also gets the charger, the headphones, the protective case and limited edition sticker to proudly display on the back of his Kia Soul as well !!!!
Does that help even one of you naysayers get it?
Edit 2:
For those that say "Isn't this how all games do it?", the correct response is (I'll succumb to Godwin's Law for some of this I'm afraid):
Did slavery come to an end?
Did the holocaust come to an end?
Did the USSR come to and end?
Did the wall in Germany get torn down?
Pick a metaphor... The choice should be your own.
Just because that's how it's always been done, simply does not 'de facto' make it right!
Edit 3:
Your responses have been mixed. Fine. My post will not be all or end all. I appreciate what most of you had to say. For clarity I do not compare the edit 2 metaphors directly to this video game. But, to be offer a piece of advice to those who thought I meant something else:
http://www.quotehd.com/imagequotes/TopAuthors/albert-einstein-physicist-insanity-doing-the-same-thing-over-and-over-again-and.jpg
I believe that a company this big and profitable can do better than the companies that came before it.
There will always be change. Who will do it first?
Edit 4:
You'll be impressed... I've listened and here is my last ( probably not) contribution to the argument:
Bungie can rename the DLC to be
$39.95 for the DIGITAL BEND OVER EDITION* for those of you who already have the original game and the first two expansions.
We will send your guardian an in-game bottle of lube. It will be waiting for you in the special orders.
* There will be no reach-arounds or discounts offered.
Edit 5:
Please stop buying next year's car at half of last year's pricing!!
Edit 6:
There were Alpha players
There were Beta players
Then came Day-1-ers
We can call the next gen the 'Vets'
Along comes Xmas Noobs
Since then we've had a few Kinder-guardians
But this latest generation will forever be known as:
THE BUNDLE- BABIES
I do not take credit for this nickname, the original poster is down there, buried somewhere in the responses to this thread. Go ahead and find him/her, they deserve all the praise.
If my post succeeds in nothing else... BUNDLE-BABIES SHALL LIVE ON FOREVER!!!!!
Edit 7:
Strictly for your entertainment only:

EDIT 8: Looks like my rant was 'all' right on the mark. The failure on the price point. The failure in exclusive content. The failure on needing to rebuy items I already own.
Many Thank to Eurogamer for taking the time to interview Luke Smith, and get to the bottom of all these inequities.
We shall see what the weekly update holds for the year-one owners of the game. I bet it's not much!
-
Better than this...
-
-
Honestly im dissapointed at the price too, this game isnt worth another $40 especially since it will always be hollow. Everyone is waiting for a game changing DLC but destiny will always be a grind. They will never give you a good story, they will never give you rich and fun gameplay. Just a new list of chores. Wake up people.. this game is booty. And though that hope to get that one sick drop is addicting, there is more to gaming then that.
-
Today for 59.95 you could buy Watch Dogs, Killzone Shadow Fall and Thief. None of those games are much older than a year old at this point which is the same basis to treat Destiny on in this example since it will be a year old when this bundle happens. If you bought those 3 games I listed all at launch they would have cost you 150 dollars. So should people be clamoring for a free 90 dollar handout because of "loyalty"
-
Let me help you understand with one word......"depreciation"
-
You think the people that stood in line waiting for the iPhone 5 are mad because someone else can go buy the exact same phone today for a fraction of the price and get a free protective case too? I doubt it very much. But you know what? They got to enjoy that phone for a whole year before Apple lowered the price. This concept is called depreciation. Most everything follows this concept. From new cars, to boats to toaster ovens. You can always get the older model for less as time goes on. Even if it's new. You learned something new today. You're welcome.
-
Comparing the holocaust and slavery to DLC charges is just wrong mate, you completely voided any real substance to your argument right there.
-
Jesus Christ. The forums have been unbearable since they announced this bundle. There's this thing called "capitalism." Have you heard of it? It's kind of a big deal. Karl Marx had some interesting things to say about it, but drew some adorably childlike conclusions about human nature in the process. This is what always happens. Every video game with DLC eventually releases a version with all or most of the DLC bundled together. Early adopters always pay more in the long run. This also means we have a year's worth of entertainment, experience and unobtainable gear on newbies. If you don't like it, be a smart consumer. Don't be an early adopter. Wait 6 months or a year, buy the same game for less. That's what I'm going to do with Fallout 4, for example, I'm going to wait until they have a DLC bundled version and then pick it up. It cuts both ways. I saw somebody yesterday make this point. I wish I could remember who, or I'd credit him, but it goes like this: XBox Live gives away two free games a month. Just gives them away. For free. Games that a year ago cost $60.00, for nothing. Think about that.
-
Bungie has to do something about thus ,it doesn't make any sense, they will loose players.
-
The phone analogy is bad as it's hardware which depreciates quickly. Like I could have bought an iPhone six (easy example) for $200 on contract from my carrier last year. Now my friend can buy an upgraded iPhone 6s with some new stuff for the same price. Who gets mad about that? Did you play the crap out of borderlands 2? How do you feel about the handsome jack collection? N00bs save over $100! Halo MCC? Wtf? Value for older software? /shakesfist! Skyrim Legendary Edition.. Don't get me started! I paid for those dlcs individually! How dare they sell it at Walmart for $40! Movies: value packs? Wtf! Collection sets? Heck no! I paid full price and enjoyed them for years! How dare others get to save some cash and enjoy them? It's a business practice. Deal or do something else...
-
There is one small problem with this argument. This is just like the MMO structure. When they add an "expansion" it has a pretty small shelf life. Once a new expansion comes out it deems the one before it almost null and void. Sure the raid is till there.....but most people dont care. There is are so many new things to do that all the old stuff sits idle. So when the taken king comes out the 2 expansions before it are not going to hold much water. So new players are going to level up and go straight to taken king content. If you make these new players invest 140 dollars into this content.....you wont sell many copies. The new players are going to play about 30 minutes of that 20 dollar expansion. Look at warcraft (most obvious example)there have been 5 expansions at 40-50 dollars a pop plus the base game. Are you ( or anyone else) going to pay $250+ to play the endgame of one expansion? No you wont......so they lower the price of the old ones to almost nothing....in fact the have sales for the base game with up to 3 expansions for 5 dollars!!!! Something i once paid 150 for.

I have the same issue. Infact I believe this is my first post ever on Destiny. In reality 40 dollars is peanuts and probably get my moneys worth pretty easily. - I have probably 400 hours on this game ( not a bega 2k hours guy ) But I agree its odd, to the newbs, you get the game and 2 patches plus an update for 60. We pay 40 for the update, thus them valuing the game, and 2 expansions at 20 bucks? I would have liked to see it the other way around, the players who already bought the game, and the 2 expansions get some sort of deal, not the person who has never played this game before.
-
God if they gave TTK free for people who own both Expansions my faith in Bungie would be restored. But sadly that's not a reality.
-
-
Yep it's bullshit, Bungie squatted, crapped all over its fan base and didn't wipe.

Bump and those who think you're QQing. You have a right too. Those guys don't pay attention to their wallets.

Learn business and shut up
-
Having put approximately 400 enjoyable hours (16 days) into Destiny, I can safely say the money I've invested thus far has been well spent. And for this reason, I'll continue to put money into a franchise I enjoy playing.
-
Your choices of metaphor are hazy at best
-
I think you fail to understand that destiny, DB, HoW are subject to depreciation over time, losing the full $100 original value. This is no different than me going and buying the GOTY edition of Batman, or buying a certified pre owned car, to avoid the first two years of massive depreciation. Also your phone example is a bit off mark
-
40 is too much. I paid 40 for the original game. I imagine taken king isn't going to have that much content, for the same price. 20. I can justify. 40. Destiny can kiss my ass, when I turn and walk away.

By the way you're whining about this I assume you've also never bought a brand new car. Buying things right as they are produced/manufactured is more expensive. Just in case you didn't know that yet.

Go cry somewhere else. By the sound of it, you didn't pay for it, your parents did.
