Everything I already own, plus the Taken King ... Or:
Buy $59.95 for Destiny - original game
Plus $39.95 for expansions I and II
Plus $39.95 for The Taken King 'pre-order'
-------------------wait for it------------------
That's $140 pretty much for the same thing as noobs can get for $60.
Thanks Bungie. I've enjoyed your game. Seriously. It's a lot of fun. I'm not kidding. Check my hours played. More than most, I can assure you that.
And, what's my thanks and appreciation for supporting your game along the way?
Getting screwed over to the tune of more than DOUBLE THE PRICE that someone will pay today.
How the hell does this make sense?
You should actually honour your most loyal customers with The Taken King as a FREEBIE, or at the very least , a DEEP Discount. (Maybe $15 instead of $20, but certainly not increase it to $40, that's just plain back-asswards).
"Here you go guardian. As a token of our appreciation for sticking with us through the first year, for buying the base game, for getting the first two expansions (which may or may not have been disc-locked content), for playing through the glitches as a live feedback forum for our programming errors, for the buffs and the nerfs you've endured, for the lag and for the heavy ammo we took from you every time you spawned... We would like to present you, as a gift,
Your own Edition of The Taken King.
I'm not butt-hurt by what's been paid so far. I'm f-ing choked that a newb will get all that and more for $60.00, and that it will cost me another $40 on top of what's already been paid, just to keep up with the BUNDLE-BABIES of 2015. Should be $15 max (free preferred) for the players who already have all the prerequisites.
BUMP if you agree with even one part of this.
--- out ---
EDIT:
Geezus. For those of you who agreed, thanks for understanding my point. For the rest, here's an example:
You all have cell phones. If you don't, try to imagine having one.
Buy the latest phone. Then pay for an upgrade. Then pay for another upgrade. Then pay for another upgrade.
Your buddy goes and buys the upgraded upgraded upgraded phone, AND GETS THE ORIGINAL PHONE YOU PAID FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE GIVING TO HIM FOR FREE AS WELL... For less than half the price too!! and as a freaking bonus, he also gets the charger, the headphones, the protective case and limited edition sticker to proudly display on the back of his Kia Soul as well !!!!
Does that help even one of you naysayers get it?
Edit 2:
For those that say "Isn't this how all games do it?", the correct response is (I'll succumb to Godwin's Law for some of this I'm afraid):
Did slavery come to an end?
Did the holocaust come to an end?
Did the USSR come to and end?
Did the wall in Germany get torn down?
Pick a metaphor... The choice should be your own.
Just because that's how it's always been done, simply does not 'de facto' make it right!
Edit 3:
Your responses have been mixed. Fine. My post will not be all or end all. I appreciate what most of you had to say. For clarity I do not compare the edit 2 metaphors directly to this video game. But, to be offer a piece of advice to those who thought I meant something else:
http://www.quotehd.com/imagequotes/TopAuthors/albert-einstein-physicist-insanity-doing-the-same-thing-over-and-over-again-and.jpg
I believe that a company this big and profitable can do better than the companies that came before it.
There will always be change. Who will do it first?
Edit 4:
You'll be impressed... I've listened and here is my last ( probably not) contribution to the argument:
Bungie can rename the DLC to be
$39.95 for the DIGITAL BEND OVER EDITION* for those of you who already have the original game and the first two expansions.
We will send your guardian an in-game bottle of lube. It will be waiting for you in the special orders.
* There will be no reach-arounds or discounts offered.
Edit 5:
Please stop buying next year's car at half of last year's pricing!!
Edit 6:
There were Alpha players
There were Beta players
Then came Day-1-ers
We can call the next gen the 'Vets'
Along comes Xmas Noobs
Since then we've had a few Kinder-guardians
But this latest generation will forever be known as:
THE BUNDLE- BABIES
I do not take credit for this nickname, the original poster is down there, buried somewhere in the responses to this thread. Go ahead and find him/her, they deserve all the praise.
If my post succeeds in nothing else... BUNDLE-BABIES SHALL LIVE ON FOREVER!!!!!

EDIT 8: Looks like my rant was 'all' right on the mark. The failure on the price point. The failure in exclusive content. The failure on needing to rebuy items I already own.
Many Thank to Eurogamer for taking the time to interview Luke Smith, and get to the bottom of all these inequities.
We shall see what the weekly update holds for the year-one owners of the game. I bet it's not much!
-
I look at it this way. More Xmas noobs to kill in trials this year.
-
You have no idea how the real world works.
-
Was gonna explain how this viewpoint is incorrect, but it seems that others have done this for me.
-
Tomb raider was 60$ when it was released in 2013. I bought it for 5$ on psn a few months back. IT'S A -blam!-IN ROBBERY. SONY SHOULD COMPENSATE ALL DAY 1 BUYERS FOR LOSING 55$ IN 20-24 MONTHS
-
Go buy a car, drive it back to your house and then put it up for sale. See if you get anywhere near the money you paid for it literally minutes before. You've had a whole year of entertainment out of Destiny for the price you've paid so far.
-
*face palms at gamers who don't understand a GOTY edition or an exclusive edition to bring in people who have never been interested in playing the original game*
-
Shafted, for $60 you get shafted by bungie.
-
With this line of thinking, you must also believe that every movie theatre patron gets ripped off. I can watch a movie on HBO one year post release. It must mean I'm a movie noob and the production studio who made millions from tickets must have -blam!- every poor sap who saw it in the theatre. Get over it, ya wuss. Bungie didn't create the formula. They just use it. Along with many others.
-
Did you just seriously compare a video game to slavery in even the slightest way? What the actual -blam!- did I just read. Have you ever heard of depreciation? Your wall of text up there is almost entirely debunked by that simple concept. My god how hard is this for people to comprehend.
-
Bungie wants us to pay 140 for a game that's still in beta.
-
Edited by Dark_Exia: 6/17/2015 3:29:38 PMAgreed, we as the players who made this game relevant shouldn't get screwed over like we are. Once again bungie shows it True GREED and complete lack of respect for it players.
-
Edited by Zack Owned You: 6/17/2015 3:26:53 PMHey OP! I have an idea for you: back when TDB released I realized this game was a scam. I already preordered both DLCs so I played them anyway I guess. Why not? Will I play The Taken King? HELL NO! Did you not see all the cool games coming out from E3?? I'm not spending one more cent on Bungie. You should try it
-
Have you retards ever heard of GOTY edition games ex(batman, borderlands,LBP,etc)
-
Welcome to capitalism
-
Unfortunately that's just the gaming industry for you. As games age, they get cheaper. Destiny just doesn't feel aged though becuase its player base is still raging as strong a they were a few months after release, and because the game has constantly been changing and evolving to suit our needs. I would probably blame Activision for the price drop. They still want loads of money so they're getting it by luring in new players with cheaper prices.
-
Bump, and what really pisses me of is the fact the noobs will get some extra gear ect.
-
or you can just buy the $40 dlc
-
To be fair I've paid a lot more to get screwed a lot worse. But enough about Hamburg.
-
Games get reduced price content collections all of the time once the game has been out awhile. GOTY collections and stuff like that. Sorry you bought the game day one.
-
Eh? All games do this, since like, forever ago. Sims, Everquest 1&2, you pay a premium when each stage of a game releases...those that wait a year are a year behind but get a packaged deal. It's standard, normal, historically accurate, ok business model, not sure how else to say it, just fine. Quit being so butt hurt, there is literally nothing wrong...
-
-
I paid about $100 for the game plus the first two expansions. I know Johnny-come-Latelys get to buy the game at a cheaper price. So let them buy it for $50. That includes the two expansions. But make them pay the full $40 for the DLC. Or let us who paid full price for the game and expansions get the DLC for $20.
-
Edited by BWSflash80: 6/17/2015 1:52:43 PMIf you already own everything else it $40, bottom line. Quit crying about how they miraculously dropped the price on a game that will be a year old, and somehow you got screwed. Most of us will have gotten a full year of play at this point. How is the world could we complain? On the flip side, if the price was higher, everyone would bitch about Bungie charging too much and being greedy. All those pathetic points you're trying to make show how much you're overthrowing it and only make you look like more of an idiot. That phone one was comical since the price of phones drops dramatically after a year. THAT IS HOW IT GOES. Like it or not. Get over it. It is and will always be a businesses.
-
The collectors thing is 79.99
-
Do you pay 8-10$ every time you see a movie in theaters.. You have a ton of hours on the game. It has obviously entertained you far more than a movie in equivalence to hours of entertain to price paid. Stop bitching Jesus
-
Bump this shit!!!
