Because they're -blam!-ing miserable human beings, and they want everyone else to be as pathetic as they are. It's a good lesson for your little brother to learn though: a lot of people are assholes, trust is reserved for those who earn it. Sorry that this happened to him though, as an older sibling I understand your frustration when someone does wrong by your blood.
