I've been reading a lot of the lore from the grimoire cards lately and thought that it would be really cool if some of the grimoire cards about famous past guardians and battles could be seen in cutscene like cinematics, or better yet, be playable in-game through purchase of an expansion. The DLC would focus on important events and people, such as:
-The Battle of Twilight Gap
Including Lord Saladin and his protégés Lord Shaxx, Commander Zavala, Ana Bray, Saint-14 and the creation of the Gjallarhorn.
-Toland and Osiris's Exile
Including Toland, Osiris, Brother Vance, Eris Morn and the creation of the Trials of Osiris, the Shadow Price, Bad Juju, and the Fate of all Fools.
-The Reef Wars
Including the Queen of the Reef, Prince Uldren, Petra Venj, Skolas, Variks, and the Queen's decision to open the Reef to guardians.
-The Fall of Kabr
Including Kabr, Praedyth, and Pahanin, and the creation of the Relic shield, Super Good Advice, the Vex Mythoclast, and the murder of Pahanin at the hands of Dredgen Yor.
-The Murderous Rampage of Dredgen Yor
including Dredgen Yor, Pahanin, Thalor, and the transition from the Rose to the Thorn; all culminating in the death of Jaren Ward and the passing down of The Last Word.
-The Showdown at Dwindler's Ridge
Including Jaren Ward, Shin Malphur, and Dredgen Yor as a conclusion to the Murderous Rampage of Dredgen Yor.
In addition adding to the story and more of these events and characters, you would also have bounty-like missions in which you would assist NPCs in creating some of the existing exotic weapons. For example, after the Battle of Twilight Gap, Feizel Cruz will approach you and ask you to help him collect armor pieces from the fallen guardians in order to forge the Gjallarhorn. And to add more depth to the weapon lore, there would be cutscenes that trigger after you've collected all necessary materials for the weapon, in which the characters tied to exotic weapons in which they would say the in-game description for the weapon:
Eg.
-Lord Saladin: Why do you insist on creating this weapon with so many unnecessary details? Don't you think that all the time you've invested in the purely aesthetic aspects of this project would have been better spent in refining your solar-flare rocket launcher?
-Feizel Crux: This is not just another rocket launcher, my lord! This weapon will commemorate those who bravely gave up their lives to protect our city! I feel it is only just to make this tribute worthy of their sacrifice. After all, if there is beauty in destruction, why not also in it's delivery?
I was thinking the DLC could open up one of two ways:
1.) A mysterious new NPC called the Storyteller arrives at the Tower and claims to have acquired an acute knowledge of the history of the Traveler, the City, and guardians. Whencyou speak, he asks you what you would like to know more about of the options stated above. After you select one, the beginning of a quest will show up on the planet where the chosen story takes place. With this version, the Storyteller would give you mission/strike briefings during the loading screens.
2.) The cryptarchs and other intellectuals of the Tower finally unveil the project they had been working on since guardians first conquered the Vault of Glass: time travel. After years of research and testing, the Consensus and Speaker have agreed to let guardians use the newly understood Vex technology. However, to ensure the safety of the guardians, the Vanguard ruled that we may only visit past events that have been recorded and are well known in order to gain knowledge of what has worked for guardians, or to learn from their mistakes. After you decide which events you would like to revisit, a new quest mission will appear on the planet your story takes place on. With this version, which ever NPC from the story you are reliving will narrate the briefings.
Eg. Saint-14 would tell you your mission objective as you load into the strike in which you accompany him and Ana Bray in one in which you accompany her.
You will progress to unlock more story missions, a strike and possibly even a raid depending on which story you chose:
-Battle of Twilight Gap
1.) Story
- Join famed Hunter Ana Bray and her fire team in a scouting mission to investigate suspicious activity in the Cosmodrome between the House of Kings and the House of Devils.
2.) Story
- Follow up on new leads about the House of Winter sending supplies and reinforcements to the now joined Kings and Devils.
3.) Story
- Help a squadron of Titans led by Lieutenant Saladin and his protégés, Zavala and Shaxx in their efforts to increase fortifications near the Twilight Gap while fending off scouting parties of the combined Houses of Devils, Kings, and Winter.
4.) Story
- Coordinate and carry out a scouting mission to see where and how many troops the combined Fallen Houses have mustered and what kind of technology they have at their disposal.
5.) Strike
- Join legendary Titan Commander Saint-14 in a strike against the leading generals in the Fallen armies in a last minute attempt to weaken the combined Houses before their final push against the City.
6.) Raid
- Join the fight as newly appointed Commander Saladin leads the remaining guardians in the last stand against the combined forces of Fallen Houses Devils, Kings, and Winter that look to destroy the City, and with it, humanity itself.
7.) Optional Bounty
- Return to the site of the infamous Battle of the Twilight Gap in order to help Feizel Crux of renowned Crux/Lomar Weapon Systems in his quest to honor the guardians that died to protect the City by collecting the armor pieces required to forge the Gjallarhorn.
Most other story lines will follow a similar path, although not all will culminate in a raid. Story arcs like that of Dredgen Yor and Shin Malphur have no place for a raid due to their more individually focused stories.
Before starting a new storyline, you would have to abandon all progress or finish your current quest.
Because this would be such a large expansion, there would be many exotic weapons and armors introduced. However, these would not be sold by Xur or earned in raids. You would have to complete different quests and story arcs to discover where the exotic gear is stowed away, for example:
1.) The Detainment Field
-Titan Helmet
-Before Kabr fell, he was able to forge more than just the Relic shield from the scavenged Vex technology, however, this helmet Pahanin was able to recover.
-Exotic perk: Bound by Space and Time
Ward of Dawn slows enemies inside and leaves them suppressed for a short time upon entering.
- This exotic would be only obtainable after completing the Fall of Kabr and The Murderous Rampage of Dredgen Yor story arcs. Upon completion of the Fall of Kabr, a cutscene would play in which Pahanin is seen traveling across a vast Martian desert with nothing but sand dunes in sight, when he is suddenly killed by Dredgen Yor (reason explained in the Murderous Rampage of Dredgen Yor story arc). The cutscene ends with Dredgen Yor waking over to Pahanin's body and picking up Super Good Advice, the only belonging that Pahanin carried with him, along with a scribbled note with coordinates in the jungles of Venus. If you chose to later complete the Murderous Rampage of Dredgen Yor storyline, you will eventually progress through to a cutscene in which Dredgen Yor is seen following up on Pahanin's coordinates on Venus. He eventually arrives at an abandoned underground research facility with a strange door that asked for identification to enter, either in the form of ghost or weapon. Soon realizing that he needed Super Good Advice to enter. He cursed himself for leaving it behind in some obscure Martian cave. Realizing he had no way of opening the door, he left in fury. After this cutscene, a new area in Venus would open, under the existing Campus-9 area. To reach the Pahanin's vault, you would have to fight through Vex who are also trying to break the door's encryption. After reaching the door however, you would need to have Super Good Advice equipped in order to open the vault. Inside the door is a small narrow room with several discarded machine gun frames and in the center of them all, The Detainment Field exotic helmet.
Let me know about any other ideas for exotic pieces and which beginning for the DLC you think fits best. Any suggestions are also welcome.

This is what destiny was supposed to be like but dumb ass Activision had to milk munie out of us
-
I'm sorry, but your idea makes too much sense. You need to go back to the drawing board and dumb it down, take parts out, sell them back, and put the over-complicated items back in

Most of those events happened in the past and would probably be in some Destiny prequel. What also would need to be addressed is the timeline of this game. Just the reef wars alone took like 25 years
-
I've thought about this for a long time as well. Honestly if this was the case id actually come back to playing this shit again. Would love to see the cinematic of the the last word and thorn.
