So... Apparently it is ok to change gender but it is not ok to change race...
I just find it interesting... You can change your sex and be praised. If you change your race your kicked out by society.

Transgender people suffer gender dysphoria because of brain-structures formed to work in an individual of the opposite sex, causing a sort of.... Dysphoria. Race is a genetic adaptation to live in a certain region. Generally effects facial-features, melanin-levels, and hair-consistency. Course, there's other stuff, but the point is, it's the result of thousands of years of adaptation and natural selection. The brains of separate races are, however, pretty much indistinguishable. There is no logical or valid reason to think of one's self as belonging to a race they do not. You cannot have a "black-person's brain". Further more, things like blackface and cultural appropriation tend to be looked down upon because, well.... White people DO have a long history of stepping on the cultures of others. It's seen as a bit of a cultural taboo to turn around and try to borrow from/imitate/parody the cultures and racial traits of other ethnicities.

But here's the thing: although the issues aren't comparable (white skin, black skin, both are human beings) to being a man and a woman (both humans, but completely different sexes). However, this will not stop people from creating an idea such as transracialism. I bet it won't stop there either, people will start claiming to be members of different species (look up otherkinism). If this trend keeps up, our identities will be obliterated....for the sake of our "identities".

I don't get why people care. Who cares if she wants to be black? Who cares if a person Is trans? Unless they're doing these things to hurt the community it shouldn't really matter haha

9 RepliesWell, technically you can't change your gender or race, "changing" genders is really just removing or adding tissue, you are still the same gender, as for race, you are trying to change your culture and heritage, I don't think that is possible without gene alteration, which as far as I know, we can't do that on a living being...

I personally just think the concept of either situation is ridiculous. Not because people should stick to what they are, but because society actually set up such barriers to begin with. If in the beginning people were allowed to act however they wanted and be attracted to anybody without risk of being criticised or worse, then the entire concept of "sex vs gender" would not exist. Not would racial barriers. But instead the human race decided to hate everyone who isn't what they consider to be normal, and now after thousands of years these people are fit to mg back and trying not only break down the social barriers, but build of their own of which to stand on top of and criticize anybody who so much as uses the wrong terminology for a man dressed as a woman. It's just ridiculous is what it is.

Race is skin deep. Gender is a case of mentality. You can not [i]feel[/i] black, white, Hispanic, etc. because that just feels like ol wing a person. Gender is fundamentally different.

Difference is that one had been IN CHARGE OF THE NAACP CHAPTER IN THE AREA. It's not that she's "changing her race", it's that she lied to get to the head of an organization.

8 RepliesLet's all get a few things straight before we all start being angry at each other. Gender =/= sex. Sex is whether you have a penis or a vagina (and/or other sexually dimorphic traits). Gender is the mental aspect of it. It's not a decision nor is it really conscious. It's just inherent to a person. Your gender doesn't always match your sex. When it doesn't, you have something called GID (Gender Identity Disorder). Another word for having GID is transgendered. These people are born with the gender opposite to their sex and they become disphoric at the dissonance of their sex and gender. To not be disphoric, they take hormones and gave surgery to make their sex match their gender. They are not changing their gender, they are changing their sex. This is important to remember.
