A lone ghost picks its way through a thick island jungle, whistling to itself.
"The legends claim great warriors came from this island, long ago. Both in the era of tribes and in the era of guns. If I could just find a candidate among these thick vines."
At long last, the ghost sees a skeleton, holding a rudimentary spear.
"Ah, there you are! I've been looking for you for a... Wait. You're not human, Exo, or awoken. My records say you're a... Chimpanzee! I had no idea your kind could be chosen as a guardian. The speaker won't believe this, and the Cryptarch will be even more excited to see an extinct species returned. If I just tweak your intelligence, stance, and language... On your feet guardian. We've got Fallen... And Cabal incoming! We better find some sort of ship, and fast!"
The races we have right now are fantastic. Humans, because we need to identify with the conflict, Exos as a mystery, and awoken are mysterious. Each one is haunted by their past, and I believe Chimpanzees would fit the bill by making them extinct (how many animals have you seen in destiny?). It would also be a familiar race yet not directly linked to humans. I believe in a future update or Destiny 2 that Chimpanzees should be added as a playable race.
Grimoire Card
Bestial, wild creatures, the previously extinct chimpanzees are haunted by their races annihilation. Unsure if they would really want to help a species that had treated them so poorly in the past, Chimp guardians are standoffish and reclusive. But when you need a little extra muscle and Light, trust the ape at your side."
There are several things that would go hand-in-hand with this new race that would make the overall game better:
Racial Starting Areas:
Sure, it's great to have a human in the cosmodrome, or even an Exo. But why are there awoken? Weren't they forged after the collapse in the edge of space, so they wouldn't be back on earth dead? Also, if Exos are military why are they dead in a civilian car, presumably trying to escape into space? Having different starting areas would help cement each races significance. Many other MMORPGs have this.
Humans could spawn in cosmodrome as normal (I guess we're all Russian?)
Exos could spawn in a military base, perhaps elsewhere in the cosmodrome
Awoken could spawn on an asteroid in the reef
And chimpanzees in their natural habitat, the islands in the Indian Ocean!
Racial Abilities
Let's face it. Races currently are a cosmetic choice that you rarely even get to see. But each race is different, very much so. Or there wouldn't be any point in making them- the story could have easily just been humans as the guardians. Adding Racial abilities, whether activated or passive, would heighten gameplay and make your character choices matter more.
For example, due to awokens' balance of light and dark, awoken take less damage from minions of the darkness. That is an example of a passive perk.
Exos, created for war, are weapons on their own even without the light's power. By pointing at an enemy, they unleash a flamethrower/lightning bolt/antimatter burst from their wrist that deals a fair amount of damage in mid-close range and causing a burn. This is an active perk.
Other could be activated, like chimpanzees flying into a primal rage or humans clinging to life when they should've died due to their stubbornness.
I think these would be cool additions. Like, bump, and vote if you agree. Who knows if these things could actually happen, but One Can Always Wish

I love the idea of the different starting areas. It makes so much sense. It said exos were WAR machines and not civilians so it would make sense to start somewhere else.
