Well it's finally upon us, my thoughts on the Queenbreaker's Potato Shooter.. I mean urm.. Bow. When I first laid eyes on this beauty it right away drew me in not only because of it's design, which made it look like it came straight from the hands of a Fallen enemy, but because of it's uniqueness being a fusion/sniper. Regrettably, with cosmetics and the idea of it having the potential of being a Guardian killer, those expectations I had fell short many times. How I usually review exotics is, does the specified weapon have the potential of taking up my preferred exotic slot choice in PvP or PvE?
First off let's start with PvE aspects.
The Bow is able to one shot red bar enemies with a crit. hit, and two shot red bar enemies without headshot hits. It's also able to kill a yellow bar in two to three shots with all critical hits. The only good things about this weapon regarding PvE is the amount of ammo you can carry is largely increased, the burn is Arc (useful for Prison of Elders and anything dealing with Fallen) and last, but not least the hip fire and rate of fire compared to any other sniper is way better for those close encounters with any Fallen Majors (obvious one). Now the bad. Would I consider giving up my exotic slot to this weapon? Eh...most likely not. When it comes to Arc burn or exotic slot snipers, I'd easily choose Patience and Time or even the Ice Breaker. When it comes to just a general PvE sniper, I'd also rather take Black Hammer because of well... obvious reasons. Does it fall short in PvE? I mean... sort of. Would I give up my exotic slot? Would I give up the champion, G-Horn? Nope. No. Not at all. That's going to be a no for me.
Now the good things about it in PvP.
It's nice to look at it. That's about it....HA kidding! But seriously, that is one of the things in it's favor. That and when you get a kill with a headshot it feels godly. Other than that the guns grants a huge ammo count for it requiring special ammo. Ever since Bungie nerfed special ammo spawning time, the Bow shines in this regard. Another plus that it has is the ability to hip-fire. Combine that hip-fire with the aim assist, and the charge rate and you got yourself a body shot-ting killing machine.
Now the cons..
One of the pros could also be a con. Sometimes hitting a body shot rather than a headshot could get you killed. Sure, if one of your allies hits an enemy and knocks down their shield, the Bow will body shot any Guardian that was already team fired on. That said, the Bow may fall short in any encounter you fall upon unless you're really skilled with the weapon. With it being considered a sniper, if you're challenging any other skilled sniper because of the other half being a fusion rifle, you'll have to charge the shot, peak your head, fire, and pray the time it takes to travel that it'll land a headshot or doesn't leave you headless. As I already mentioned, with this weapon being considered a fusion rifle, not only do you have to charge it, but any small strafing from the enemy or any damage that you take can make you flinch which will cause you to miss. Sadly in the time it takes you to calculate the charge time, mixed with the time it takes for the bullet to actually hit, and then to account for the enemy strafing, it will either result in you getting killed or changing back to your primary to finish the kill (which I found myself doing way more regularly than landing headshots).
Should you use the Queenbreaker's Bow? Should it take up that exotic slot that your precious Hawkmoon, Thorn, The Last Word, or Truth is in regarding PvP? Well the answer for me is going to be..eh, maybe. Yes it takes time to get good with this weapon. It won't be an exotic that you pick up and immediately will understand and get kills with, A.K.A. exotic hand cannons. Yes, it's considered a fusion/sniper rifle and honestly it feels sort of underwhelming in both of those classes. Chances are you already have a great sniper that you represent if you snipe, and you should just stick to that. As I said before you need to be really skilled with the Bow because going up against a skilled sniper will get you killed in the long battles and making those tight corridor kills if you're up against The Last Word or a shotgun is going to get you annihilated. With regards in PvE, I'm not even going to explain in depth why not. Keep your G-Horn on, keep your Ice Breaker's and Black Hammer's because the Bow is not going to outshine those options.
