This is a problem that I believe needs more of a solution than just PSN/LIVE moderation. Harassment messages that you receive from an online match. These are typically outside of Bungie's control, understandably. However using Bungie.net we should be able to go to the player's profile, report them and require a screenshot of the harassment messages to report to Bungie.
While this might be hard to enforce with bans and other traditional methods, a short term creative solutions should be in order.
For example:
1. If a player is reported with screenshots of the harassment messages by 5 or more people in a 2 week period, then they are on the harassment list, with a message being sent to them via Bungie.net or the app
2. If the player continues, their emblem is forced to be that of a white box that reads, something like "I AM A BULLY"
3. Further reports will have them blocked from joining private party activities, like Trials, Crucible, Prison of Elders, or Raids
EDIT
I wasn't insulted by the message I receive, nor do I give any weight to them on a personal level. Its the fact that I don't want this community to be the next Call of Duty. When I get threats like "I am going to hack you and make your life a living hell"... yeah sure they are gonna to hack me (sarcasm), but what if they do that to some one who isn't as cynical or as well versed in the ways of the web? It might scare them off of this game.
I know that Bungie has little power in this situation, but PSN and Xbox LIVE seem to do an all or nothing approach to online harassment. Which works in games like Call of Duty were you aren't very likely to see the player as more than just a name, but in a pseudo-mmo like Destiny where the community aspect is strong clever punishments are more effective. Like forced to to wear an emblem of shame, might work with out removing the player. Allow Bungie to reform the community instead of remove the community.
Just thoughts.

Edited by Cyanide: 6/8/2015 4:40:57 PMIf I get hate mail I just reply this back until they stop "LOL U MAD BRO?" On a real note, raise more mature children. If they can't handle hate mail I can't imagine the day a future boss drills them for third performance.

email bungie if your that but hurt

The world is already becoming soft enough. You're taking an insult from an anonymous person who knows nothing about you over the internet. If that hurts your feelings, then this world will eat you up and spit you out.

Things like this just proven that kids these days are WAY too sheltered. Ever hear the saying "sticks and stones...". Suck it up if you receive hate mail. They keep sending it? Block then If it gets to you and your little feelings get hurt, turn off the game. Even if reporting for that did anything, personally id rather do it through xbox/psn, as their punishments are harsher than anything that bungie could to. Its the difference between "damn banned and cant play destiny" and "damn im banned and cant play anything." Though this should be used for cheaters, not just cause youre a pansy

Welcome to the internet, now take your participation trophy and gtfo. We don't need even one more crybaby complaining about trivial shit that can be solved by yourself via blocking comms.
-
Omg a bully , -blam!-ing pussies now and days I swear. That's all kids are , to god damn sensitive
-
Ummm isn't that why both platforms have reporting systems? Roport, block and continue
-
#2 would be an incentive for me to send those messages. Other than that, man up it's just some random kid on the Internet and if that single message if enough to hurt you then there's a serious problem and you need to get help.

Edited by TheWavetwister: 6/8/2015 4:03:51 PMEh, no experience with PSN, but Microsoft seem to be fairly on top of abusive messaging. My friend once for restricted for replying to hate male in a hilariously abusive way.... I'll just block people though, I'll only ever report racism or sexism really. Edit: if you aren't satisfied with how Microsoft/PSN deal with it, then you could always make a new account and repeatedly name and shame them on the forum.

Unfortunately this is more of a psn and xbox issue. Bungie has little control and only want to moderate their own game. Psn and xbox need to do more about this though.

Report em to PSN and LIVE they can get banned from ALL online gaming. Like Bungie needs MORE complaints in their daily lives...
