Recently the American House of Representatives has voice voted to drop funding for the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918.
What is this act?
This program makes it "illegal to take, possess, import, export, transport, barter or offer for sale, purchase or barter any migratory bird, or the parts, nests, or eggs of bird except under the terms of a valid permit... "
Essentially what this does is protects many birds (especially endangered species) from being poached, hunted and killed for collectors or any individual who wants to make a profit from selling rare or desirable bird parts.
The passenger pigeons extinction was a clear victim of the lack of protection towards birds favorable to poaching and over hunting.
Why is the funding being dropped?
Initially the house thought it necessary to do so in order to protect oil companies that are heavily fined when their procedures accidentally kill birds under protection however they've decided to take it a step ahead and eliminate it all together.
What does this mean and what can we do?
Endangered species will be targets for kill. Even birds such as the bald eagle, the icon for America itself.
Spreading the word and making your voices heard can help bring awareness. Not many know of the migratory bird act let alone the dangers of it not being in place.

I want a picture of Abraham Lincoln riding a bald eagle. Now. Maybe with Queen Elizagrump II riding a lion and Putin riding a bear. And the header is just:
Squad
Species go extinct on a daily basis. Do we preserve their existence as a means of moral justice, or are we really just hindering the true nature of the world. Survival of the fittest, and some species cannot continue to exist with the changing world without constant protection; so in a manner of speaking, is this not wrong?

Tl;dr
this is why we must save the birds
-
Don't you know about the bird?

WAIT Every thing that I got, I got from slangin birds...

I support the birds.

Actually the Bald Eagle is protected under two other acts, the Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle protection act and the Lacey Act. Even if the migratory bird act was eliminated states would still regulate what can and cannot be hunted and set punishment for poaching and hunting birds that cannot be hunted.
-
Except that I believe killing the national bird falls under a separate law

ALASKA!!!!

I'm not American so... I say grab a shotgun and ask your wife to start up the oven ;)

Because its more important that oil stay cheap than having birds flutter around... Facepalm.
Except for geese. Those birds are the biggest jerks ever.
Endangered Birds are covered under the endangered species act are they not?
Initially the house thought it necessary to do so in order to protect oil companies that are heavily fined when their procedures accidentally kill birds under protection
This stuff pissed me off so much. The idiots in our government are getting paid off by other idiots with no regard for anything but money. On a side note, this reminds me of the current bobcat issue here in Illinois. Bobcats have just recovered from being overhunted before, and politicians already are trying to pass a bill that lets people hunt them for trophies and money. One of the politicians even compared a bobcat to a saber-toothed tiger. They're morons.

Edited by ShpadoinkleBeks: 6/8/2015 4:50:42 PMThey better not! That act stopped the stupid plume trade, and brought back tons of endangered birds The history of how this country has taken care of its animals is just ridiculous sometimes. I love birds too much to see this happen, I'm going to school to be a ornithologist who specializes in raptors. If this passes companies that run things like wind turbines, won't have to do environmental impact surveys and can lead to tons of raptors dying. They get confused and hurt from the buffer of those massive blades, this act has been making the companies make sure no raptors will be hurt when they place one. I have never done this, but I'm writing to all of states representatives to tell them why this act is extremely important.

Who cares? America as we know it will still cease to exist in a few centuries. And everyone will look back and laugh at its cumulated stupidities.
