Pahanin's End -Part 2

Part 1: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/123294158/0/0/1 Part 2 Pahanin and ‘Vice were old friends who had been together since Pahanin’s return from the Vault. They knew each other very well, and their teamwork was legendary. Hand-built by Pahanin, Super Good Advice possessed a number of unique systems that allowed it a level of performance unheard of in any other machine gun. The weapon’s onboard AI, in addition to keeping Pahanin company, also tracked the ballistic trajectory and performance of each round fired. Any rounds that missed their target were automatically teleported back to the magazine via a piece of Golden Age hardware which was able to manufacture its own ammunition. The same teleportation technology rotated the weapon’s three barrels in-between rounds, to prevent overheating. With these systems, ‘Vice was able to lay down suppressive fire indefinitely and could blast solar energy into a target for as long as it took to blow it apart, melt it down, or otherwise destroy it. As the only Guardian who had ever entered the Vault of Glass and survived, Pahanin was nothing short of a legend. His ordeal within the Vault had changed him, however. And the horrors of what he faced in its dark depths left scars upon his psyche that had never stopped haunting him. After witnessing the assimilation of Kabr and the complete erasure of Guardians by the Vex minds within the Vault, Pahanin became convinced that his continued existence hinged upon someone constantly being beside and aware of him. Gripped by this mindset, Pahanin fashioned Super Good Advice with the greatest care and utmost attention to detail, as more than his life – indeed, his very existence – would depend upon the weapon. Though extraordinarily heavy and unwieldy, the hunter knew the weapon inside and out. Pahanin knew the weapon’s every system and quirk as well as he knew his own. He was quite accustomed to the weapon’s heavy recoil and had built Titan field drivers into his armor to manage the weight. The slight gyroscopic pull he felt with the weapon’s barrel rotation was no more a bother to him than his own need to breathe. The two of them worked together seamlessly, a well-oiled machine. Without its heavy cannon, the charging Colossus didn’t have a chance. Pahanin raised ‘Vice and unleashed a roaring torrent of sunlight into the Cabal commander. Dozens of fiery blasts erupted into the giant’s chest and head, and after only a few thundering steps, the Colossus staggered. With a fierce yell, ‘Vice slammed even more rounds into the monster until, with the blast of an explosive decompression, the Cabal’s helmet burst and it collapsed dead, face down in the sand. “Yeah! It looks like there’s only room for one gatling gun around here, space turtle!” ‘Vice mocked the dead mountain of flesh and metal. “A Colossus,” marveled Pahanin with a grin. “We must really be getting on their nerves.” “Glad you’re having a good time,” the Ghost remarked as it appeared again beside the Hunter. “But if we keep slaughtering all the Cabal in the area, they are going to start bombing us from orbit. We need to relocate.” “There doesn’t seem to be anything here anyway,” the Ghost continued, as it made another quick scan of the area. “Then why do the Cabal keep coming?” ‘Vice asked. “This is a culture that will level a mountain before going around it,” the Ghost responded. “They’re stubborn.” Before Pahanin could think of a witty addition to the conversation, the Ghost’s voice rang out again. “Speaking of stubborn! There’s another ship coming in!” “Looks like it’s time to go,” said Pahanin as he slung ‘Vice across his back. Leaping aboard his sparrow as it appeared beneath him, he rocketed out of the canyon.
