I and my money are leaving Destiny on the 9th.
Sure, Bungie showed us Etheric Light and how we could use it to upgrade whatever weapons/armors we wanted in order to finally (after 9 months of the game being out...) build the Guardian that we wanted.
Problem is; I would have skipped the House of Disappointment entirely had they bothered to mention that said Etheric Light would only be available to the hardcore community of twelve-year-old kids who can grind out 12+ hours per day during summer break.
I have a gorgeous wife, two great kids, a job I like, and other responsibilities that all come together to make up a great life. For the person like me who has other responsibilities, Bungie has made the Etheric Light nigh impossible to get.
On top of that, they've made it even more difficult to find people to play with as the elitism and alienation they are supporting. By designing the PoE and ToO as they have; no one on the LFG groups wants a 33 on their team, even if that 33 does have a fully maxed 365 Gjallarhorn on all three characters. They only want 34's, but one cannot get to 34 without going through the PoE toughest two settings. But then we're back to the reality that one needs to find a team to even attempt the bullet-sponge-hell that is the 34 & 35, but then it cycles to... you get the idea.
Never before in over thirty years (30+!!!) of gaming have I seen one company put so many roadblocks to progression in front of such a large majority of their players.
Does Bungie think somehow, that the miniscule army of twelve year old kids who make up the "hardcore" wing of the Destiny population will really keep their game afloat? Does Bungie even remotely recognize the simple fact that over 90% of their players fall into the "casual" range?
So they make this Etheric Light for the described purpose, then institute walls that keep most of the player base from ever getting it.
Not only have similar practices been proven to destroy companies, it has been proven in study after study to actually drive people away from products that have done the same thing.
As it is going to do to me on Tuesday. As it has been doing to be for months now.
Come the 9th, my Destiny play time slows to a trickle. I will grind out the Iron Banner for this weekend to get one of my Warlocks to 34, and will have one more piece of Light to get my beloved Vision of Confluence to 365. After that, my other two Warlocks are being deleted. I simply do not have anywhere near the time to grind out enough Light to keep up three Warlocks at max level. Just thinking about the sheer number of hours per day that I'd have to pump into Destiny to achieve that... I'd have to quit my job amongst a whole host of other actions just to free up the time to make sure I could get that much Light.
Bungie wants to say that Destiny is "ambitious". But how ambitious of an idea is it really when the vast majority of your players are all but locked out of content simply because you wanted to make a crafting material so difficult to get that it drives people away?
Nope. Not me. These business practices are a direct insult to the people who have lives/jobs/families outside of this game. Funny though; those people you are alienating are also the people who make the money that those squealing brats have to beg for to purchase your products, Bungie. Without the responsible people purchasing you game for themselves and for the kids, who is left to purchase your products?
The "casual" gamers make up most of your profits/sales, Bungie; yet you institute dedicated design like this to lock out those same people by making a crafting material so difficult to get that most have no hope of ever getting it?
See you on Tuesday, Bungie. No, actually, no I won't... for the fist time since the game launched, I won't be in Destiny for the reset. There's too many great games coming out to spend that much time on these failed business practices.
The Elder Scrolls Online
The Witcher 3
Fallout 4
I'm not saying that these games will "kill" Destiny. But what's the point of coming into Destiny when those three examples above are much better at rewarding both casual and hardcore gamers? Developers who actually listen and interact with their gamers?
In the end, I have to extend a hand of congratulations, Bungie.
Truly you have done a remarkable job of chasing away the main sources of your company's revenue. The people with jobs.

Lol I'm on my way out as well, been playing the Witcher, picked up ESO today. Waiting and hoping on Bethseda at E3. Take this grind and shove it. I also think you waited too long in your precious gjallarhorn, if he sold it this Friday you might keep some for a week or two, but I really don't see a future for me and this game in its current state. destiny the taken king is not on my radar for purchase.

"Never before in over thirty years (30+!!!) of gaming have I seen one company put so many roadblocks to progression in front of such a large majority of their players." I don't know about you, but I feel like Bungie isn't the one putting up the roadblocks.
-
Face it. The game isnt marketed to you or me, we are an older generation of gamers with less time on our hands. Games are produced and pushed toward teens and kids, not the old men and women with jobs wives and lives

Maybe bungie figures those 12 year olds will be 22 over the course of their 10 year game plan Still doesn't make sense as a business plan They must be making money with their current set up or someone is blindly adhering to some sort of company plan What really made me give them a vote of no confidence was the dark below exotic upgrade experience. Really, how does someone that plays games and makes games not even remotely know that it's a bad idea to reset everything Then, they fixed it for HoW, which was great, but the attitude was that it was a surprise to them that players were upset the first go round That blew my mind lol I enjoy parts of this game, and I wish bungie would open the gates, let us easily, as in easy, like patrol easy, get weapons, gear, upgrades, everything! Then, we could all build the legend we want and play all the various parts of the game we enjoy any way we like! All of us, not just the one or two percent of the player base that has the skills and time to pursue end game content

Bye Nox, always enjoyed reading your thorough posts and thought processes on the feedback forum. Take care bud.

I feel the same way, been on the fence about getting eso all day and your post has convinced me to get it. I work 40+ hours a week and don't get much time to play, maybe one or two nights a week, hardly ever on weekends. Why do I keep playing a game that I rarely make any forward progress in? See you on eso (if your on ps4)
-
Because all of those games have badass forum threads like Bungie does.... Pfft. Get your ungrateful, lazy ass outta' eeeeere'!

Message: Do you have a character higher than 33? Answer: Yrs my Titon. New message: Do you have a 365 Gallahorn? Answer: Yes Message want to do a 34? Answer: God bless you for letting me in! Oh and Kiss my ass! Elitist pricks! You do realize you had to do this at level 33?
-
I just posted a reply similar to this one on someone else's thread. Yep that's how I feel about it too. That and the fact that even the best parts of the game have to be done until you're beyond sick of them before progress is attained. *cough* IB *cough* I'm tired of it. Don't have time and the time I do have I don't want to waste anymore.

Well at least yougot one guy to 34, im gonna be forever 32. Due to the lack of MM or ingame LFG. I think my little club will only get bigger though!

Your anger towards Destiny is really ugly.
-
So what you are saying is that you play a massive multiplayer game and you want the rewards a hardcore gamer should get being given to you , a casual 30+ plus gamer with a job, wife and kids.. I have news for you.. Your average play time per day is - i don't know - one hour?? People like yourself should buy and play products designed for you.. I am 30+ too , i have a time consuming job , i play 2 hours per day average and i find myself often frustrated by the grind Destiny has to offer.. But i get how this game is designed and what is it's purpose.. So if you can not cope with it and you have every right not to be able to cope with it maybe you should play some other game suitable to your needs instead of blaming Bungie for designing something that has nothing to do with you and making it a big success.. Sidenote : where i live Destiny is not filled with 12 year olds , i don't know if that is the case in the US but people i meet from LFG and people that play in my country are average 20-25 years old..

Lvl 34 was made available by piecing together PoE armor, one at a time from acquiring armor cores from PoE 32. Have you not done this?
-
I got to 34 the same weekend the DLC came out. Upgraded my exotic. Got one etheric light out of 3 Nightfalls, got an armor core from PoE 32 and got the trials package for the last one. I work roughly 45 hours a week. I maybe play 2 weeknights for a few hours each. Usually out all day Saturday with my girl. Sunday is the bulk of my play time. What I'm getting at is I don't play this game into the ground and I was still able to do it rather easily. It's not that difficult if you use all the resources the game provides.
-
When does fallout 4 come out? Also, i just got elder scrolls online yesterday. I cant wait to try it after work today. Wat system do u play on?
-
Edited by XI cheVelle IX: 6/9/2015 5:25:41 PMYou could already have a level 34 by beating just one level 32 PoE a week for the past 3 weeks. Spend more time figuring the game out and less time fretting over how you think Bungie has screwed you.
-
Every week, just run the 32 Poe on weekends and get the armor core and buy the gear variks( i think thats the spelling) is selling, and in 4 weeks level 34 without an exotic or any etheric light
-
Yep they are ;-)
-
Man I was with you....,I'm a filthy casual too, have a family ....can't find any body to play with, don't have time to shot at the same guy for 2 hrs....got witcher 3 and I'm loving it.....but 3 warlocks? Really ?.....
-
You clearly don't have a grasp of what revenue stream actually means.
-
I have a job, 2 kids (one more on the way), a beautiful wife and I still managed to find time to grind out stuff. I managed to find one etheric light but finally all my dudes will hit 34, thanks to the boots
-
I am a victim just like you and I have the same situation in life, it's bullshit I just can't buy the shit I want already with $$
-
Bump!!!!! I'm with this guy 100%. If we had more matchmaking options I might be able to tolerate the many bugs bestowed upon us but sadly the app is the only way to find other players. Bs and a waste of time. And lastly, bungie your really let your fan base down by kicking us solo campaign gamers in the groin while we're down. God bless the witcher 3, haven't been on destiny since I bought it and haven't looked back :)
-
I was totally sympathetic and understanding until you said you had multiple warlocks. You are a scrub
-
Whoa slow down big fella. First NOX I'm sorry to hear you're disappointment. I can feel your pain as I am in the same boat. All that said. I just don't got for it. I do what I can and have fun. I don't care about the tyre one players that can't balance a checking account or change a dipper. I don't know if it is helpful but just thought I'd through you some good vibes

What makes me sad is I've lost two very good clan mates who used to be active pre-HoW for these reasons. One left because of the time sink, the other left because Trials was really all he was looking forward to and it proved to be an exercise in futility. And more are becoming more and more scarce each week. I am sad because I am slowly heading this direction. IB is here, that's a considerable time sink, but next week, then what? I have no desire to collect the weapons from 35 PoE, their crap. All the guns I actually care about will be ascended within the next week or two and I'll have 3 34's. I will not play Trials just to get stomped on by the top 5% of PvP players of Destiny for a few hours, it's not fun. And this is from someone who ran both raids, 3x a week religiously plus NF/weekly and PvP's regularly just for fun to burn off steam with clanmates. I've run the weekly once since the DLC dropped and PvP has lost its draw thanks to the failure in Trials. Now what?
