So after using maxed out 365 arc snipers last week for Skolas, a friend of mine decided to re-roll a Her Benevolence to get void for this week. It was understood that any and all perks we're going to be cleared and he was fine with that, it was the extra, unwarned side effect that was perturbing.
Upon reforging the weapon it was reset to its previous 335 damage rating and rendering the etheric light used on it wasted. To me it feels like this was unintended by the developers and should be addressed.
Edit: After checking myself, it does have a warning about the ascension. Which still raises the question on whether or not it should be like that? I personally disagree with resetting ascension with it.

I'd say it doesn't re roll your current sniper but just gives you a new one to work with, pre ascension.

There is no such thing as reforging in the game, what the gunsmith does is an exchange, and Bungie should call it that, he takes your mote of light, weapon parts, glimmer and the gun and gives you another one, all the things he asks for in order to "reforge" are in the same list, the gun should have it's own section with a check box.

The warning itself clearly states all progress and ASCENSION will get reset. Stop being dumb.

The reforging icon on the gun itself I believe says it clearly that all upgrades and experience for said gun will be lost in exchange for rerolling the gun for different element/perks.
