Thorn is much better than every single weapon in pvp and if you believe in a balanced pvp you should want a nerf. If u don't tell me why. Please have well though out answers and no shit like 'git gud'. Be sensible
Edit: please try be constructive. I want this to be a discussion not people crying and moaning everywhere

Have a look at this

Go ahead Nerf thorn. You have your thorn...meet my Vex !

Edited by xROGUExSKILLZx: 6/4/2015 1:33:14 AMThe only way I feel it should be nerfed is so that dot Can't kill. Still hits 7 a tick for 5 ticks. Same damage, same range. Can't do that final one damage to kill. Effectively adds 1 shot to the kill. However, if this happens, tlw will also need a nerf. Or to be fixed at least.
-
I don't want it to be nerfed into oblivion. Look at Suros (or auto rifles in general)
-
It doesn't need a nerf. Can be beat by most guns.
-
My problem with thorn isn't that its so powerful. When I go up against a thorn user I suck just as much as vs any other user. Honestly, if I were to go by my seat of the pants feeling, thorn only really feels slightly better than any other gun. The problem I have with it is that it makes every other hand cannon (except TLW) completely obsolete. All the guns that can even come close in damage, lack in rate of fire. Thorn can two shot in the head almost 100% of the time, and three shot with body shots just as easily. No other hand cannon do this without relying on luck perks that may or may not proc, and even still they have slower rates of fire. Why would I ever even consider a different hand cannon(except TLW) when I have thorn?
-
Huh oh because the one who have it earned it lol we deserve this op ass gun
-
It could two shot before thorns limiters were taken away. I say go to pre buff but keep the reload speed, it's fair for a 2-3 shot gun
-
People don't understand that if they 1v1 somebody at a distance with the other person using thorn then they will get destroyed like honestly if you're not a dumbass you'll find cover
-
I'm very conflicted about thorn I don't like it, but it shouldn't be nerfed it just shouldn't hopefully BUNGIE will find a good solution
-
If they Nerf the thorn everyone will go to the next best thing.
-
My 'Her Mercy' > My Thorn It's perks melt tho
-
It's mainly because it's overused.
-
No single gun in this game is Overpowered. Every gun, in the right hands, is overpowered. Although I say this, it could use a little 'tweaking'.
I'm gonna use it till it gets the inevitable nerf

I prefer the last word. And The Last Word is OP in my hands. ;)
-
I don't mind if they nerf it. I'm just worried it'll be another SUROS/Auto rifle situation. If you all haven't noticed, Bungie has no idea how to balance weapons in destiny. Until they figure it out, i'd rather all weapons go back to the way they were in release to be completely honest. Then from there, buff weapons to bring them up to par with other weapons instead of just nerfing the most used weapons. Make all weapons powerful so no weapon is more powerful than the other.

Truth > thorn
-
The DoT needs to be addressed. Either that or every weapon in the Crucible needs to be balanced better, but for now, I could settle with the DoT not causing death but keeping 1 HP so literally ANYTHING can kill them.

Reduce mag to 6 Replace Send It with Field Scout

Edited by JarodColdbreak: 6/4/2015 2:43:56 AMI don't think it should be nerfed. How much damage does a Thorn headshot do compared to other, similar weapons? I usually do around 84 with a headshot, plus 35 or so over time. That comes to a total of 119. That is not that much for a headshot. I strongly believe there are guns who do more headshot damage and nobody is crying over them to be nerved. I think the Thorns problem is that people feel they get more damage when they really arent. The damage is just dealt over time instead of all at once. The strongest ability of the Thorn, in my opinion, is that the enemies shields will not regenerate as long as the effect is active, giving you more time to deal more damage before having to deal with shields again. Also you can sometimes see where the enemies are moving behind cover because the damage will pop up even behind walls etc. Honestly those are the only two really OP things about the Thorn. The thorn has a pretty low fire rate and it has a rather strong kickback. Yes you can activate a perk to reduce kickback, but you have to sacrifice range, which is usually not what you want. You do not want to get caught in close combat with a Thorn, you want to stay at mid-range. If you see a Thorn user, try to get close to him. He will have to pull out a shotgun or something similar, because the Thorn does not deal enough damage to quickly dispatch a close enemy. It is certainly a good weapon and it can feel rather OP, but it all comes down to how you deal with the situation. If you get a headshot from a sniper from across the map, there is no real counterplay. If you get one-shotted with a shotgun from around the corner, there is no real counterplay. (Besides, of course, not to get yourself into that situation) You have plenty of counterplay with Thorn. First of all it is pretty easy to figure out if somebody is using Thorn. The sound is unique and if you get hit you will know. I am a Thorn user and I will give you guys some advice. You should probably be able to figure this out on your own. If you get hit by a Thorn or hear a Thorn go off in your general area, do a quick retreat, locate the Thorn user, then get in his face before he can get a good angle at you. If he is experienced enough he will switch to secondary. tl;dr Thorn is not OP, you trade damage over time for slow fire rate and not to underestimate kickback. Edit: I am getting some replies here, and I would like to add that I respect all your opinions. This here post is my own opinion, not based on months of research. If you have other information please post it. I am not saying this is the ultimate truth. But I believe that I am right. Does not mean I might not be wrong so lets keep it civilized and talk about this. :) I appreciate the discussion!! Edit: I might add that I never had the feeling that I get killed more by thorn than other weapons. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L7FV9l4hXo2tHD3XlFUp854XvJIwTKFIPvASLduPPS4/htmlview?usp=sharing&sle=true If you take a look at this, the Thorn is Top tier but not OP tier. Edited by whsky_wings: 6/4/2015 12:34:56 AMThorns crit damage should be lowered, and DoTs shouldn't show up in PvP And id want a nerf so not as many people use it.. pvp is boring when its nothing but thorn
-
It starts with thorn then another gun then another then another then another......just get your own thorn and stop complaining seriously all guns arn't ment to be balanced

Edited by Gillbates55 : 6/4/2015 12:37:28 AMDude you scrubs on these forums are the -blam!-ing plague. Fact you block your account on a topic that's about pvp proves the scrub part.

Red Death destroys Thorn on maps like Pantheon and Rust Lands. Thorn is very very good I will admit but it doesn't need a nerf. Even if I gun a player down faster with TLW that same player will hate Thorn and complain about it more because they hate dying to DoT.
-
It's exotic for a reason every gun has something unique about. Thorn just happens to damage overtime. I admit I use thorn a lot but it's cuz it gives u an advantage over others. And even with the advantage IT IS STILL beatable so people have get to use it.
-
I don't have Thorn, but I've died enough to it and I think that it is fair. You have to go through quite a lot of work for it, and it should be powerful. All exotics should be powerful. I think that once we stop asking for nerfs, we will pay attention to other issues. For example, on yesterday's patch there were no nerfs, but they fixed issues like Treasure Keys, which actually needed fixing. This isn't a "git gud scrub" post, I am just saying that once every other problem is fixed, we can focus on balancing.
-
Nothing needs to be needed. Auto rifles need to be buffed
-
I think DoT should be disabled for PvP. The overall power is pretty balanced
