It's barbaric in today's culture, but not during the times when the Old Testament took place. The same times when people were thrown in holes and the towns would gather and hurl stones at them until they died or until they felt they suffered enough punishment. There are much bigger problems in this world than burnt offerings from centuries ago. Chinese fur trading where they literally skin animals alive. Genetically mutated chickens and cattle for fast food and other outlets. Whaling across all the seas of the world. Nearly 90% of the Whale population has been destroyed in the last 100 years. The fact is that people and society is the chameleon. Burnt offerings weren't required but voluntary. Most governments and officials were the ones who pushed them to be mandatory. It was also mostly the Israelites who did this. They would kill the animal prior to burning it also, I think that's worth mentioning. God also told us that he doesn't want our burnt offerings. Reason as to why we don't do that anymore.

God said in the old testament that he loves the smell of burning blood. Did the god change? You think it's barbaric now, but you worship that god. Why did he ever need sacrifice of a living creature?
-
Please give an example of where it says that. Because I am more than certain you are misinterpreting.

Before reading below, keep Malachi 3:6 in mind. Leviticus 1 King James Version (KJV) 1 And the Lord called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the Lord, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock. 3 If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord. 4 And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. 5 And he shall kill the bullock before the Lord: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 6 And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces. 7 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire: 8 And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar: 9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord. 10 And if his offering be of the flocks, namely, of the sheep, or of the goats, for a burnt sacrifice; he shall bring it a male without blemish. 11 And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the Lord: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar. 12 And he shall cut it into his pieces, with his head and his fat: and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar: 13 But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it upon the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord. 14 And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the Lord be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons. 15 And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and burn it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the altar: 16 And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes: 17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord. It's disgusting. And what's even worse, is your whole religion is based on the even more disgusting act of human sacrifice.

So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. (I Samuel 15:22 NKJV)

Edited by LordSaladz: 6/3/2015 7:40:02 PMI don't see what is so disgusting about it. It simply describes in detail what was to be done. The animals didn't suffer and would have been eaten regardless. And I fail to see where it says where it is for God's pleasure. As for human sacrifice, yes I suppose it did happen. But those people chose to be sacrificed. I don't practice these things because God hasn't instructed me to do so nor anyone else I've ever met.
-
But if he did ask you to do something like that, would you?
-
God said loved the smell.... He instructed them what to do, and how to do it. Why on Earth would the creator of the Universe desire animal sacrifice? And your entire religion is based on the idea that god required a human sacrifice (himself, Jesus) as payment for a situation that was created according to his will.
-
It wasn't a sacrifice. It was murder. It was "punishment" for doing something similar to what I am doing but simply to a whole other level. He was the Son of God and spread the word and defended everything he said and believed. Therefore they put him on a cross, nails through his ankles and wrists, a crown of thorns, a sponge of vinegar in his mouth, snapped his shins so he couldn't hold up his own weight, and then gorged out his insides with a spear. Now you tell me what's horrible and disgusting. Yes God knew it was going to happen, because it had to happen. Because without it, faith in him would have diminished, the world would have continued to burn in the lames of hell, and he wanted to show people that Jesus really was the Son of God by raising him from the dead and ascending him to Heaven.
-
So that's the best solution the creator of the Universe can come up with? He created the world according to his will, "sin" and all, and had to sacrifice himself to himself in order to make things better?
