A big problem with optional matchmaking is that it's easier and people will default to it thinking it's as effective as LFG or the forum to find friends - or the tower for that matter. Ask people for help as the tower you run past them a the time. Or on patrol! My point is players will default to the matchmaking and if it's a bad experience i.e. They have poor teammates or AFKers try will assume it's the game not the matchmaking and the player base will slide off. It's not a solid solution. A solution would be to not be lazy and actually *gasp* make friends! MMOs have long been around before destiny and have given rise to LFG sites that are more detailed and helpful than any matchmaking site. Is it more work for the end user? Of course but that's how you ensure success! Finding like-minded people that are willing to go the next step to get the job done. Good luck and I hope your able to find people to play with.

 • You're welcome to your opinion. Personally, I'm thinking continuing to only have 1/5 players get to end game content will lead to a larger drop off. And the community (which by coincidence IS the player base) by a massive massive margin disagrees with you.

 • Looking for group websites amongst MMO games, which Destiny is, is commonplace. It's not my opinion it's a fact. Why do you think they designed it so? PC players have known this for years. Why would this change out of the blue?! The point of an MMORPG is that the world is open and you meet (hence the emotes) people and play cooperatively together. Is your world server empty? I don't get the incessant complaining for match making. It's unnecessary for the activities when there are all these other tools for people to utilize that WORK FAR BETTER. It's not changing dude.

 • I really don't get your point. MM as an "OPTION". It gives players an extra CHOICE as to how they want to play. Want to 'make friends"? Go outside. Want to participate in an online game with people you've met? Play Destiny. As for stopping and asking someone on patrol or in the tower, "will you be my fwiend? Pwease?" Will that no longer be an option during MM? Is that what happens? I can't be arsed having to go on a fekn forum just to get someone to do VoG with me. Give me matchmaking to do it and if I choose to add thrm as friends, so be it. Bungie are wrong for forcing this type of play on players. I play for fun, NOT to make friends just so I can complete certain areas. If I make friends in the process, fine with me. Next game Bungie make will be about arranged marriage. Mark my words! Will you be so eager to dign up for that idea? Methinks not!

 • I get it as an option but what you are missing is that THAT "option" becomes default ala TDM on CoD because it's the most accessible. If it fails then people think it's the game and choose to blame the game for shitty MM and write the game off. Oh but wait, you know more than game devs just like everyone around here, I suppose.

 • I think it's quite clear, and evident, that the devs have it wrong. They are devs; they write software code. They aren't behavioural/ social scientists or of that ilk. They came up with an idea for "forced" team based play and got it wrong. Don't think that because they made the came that they are infallible. Like was said, it won't become the "goto" gameplay mode. Those who choose to form a clan have a choice. Those who decide NOT to have not got the option and as a result, forfeit chunks of the game. A game which they paid for. DLC which they also paid for. It isn't the devs' place to tell me, or anyone else for that matter, to join a clan just to enjoy certain aspects of the game. All aspects/ features of ANY game should be open to the customer 'as is', not based on any social/ private factors which a dev "believes" to exist in the real world.

 • Saying "they are devs they write software code" shows just how little you, as a consumer, actually know about the development process. I shouldn't have to further my point after such a naive statement. Therein lies the misunderstanding. You think you actually know something about making a game. I didn't say they weren't capable of error. They are however, vastly more knowledgeable about what works and what doesn't in the gaming industry as a whole; they've excluded match making for reasons important to the integrity of the game. They've envisioned it thus far. Some writer at Forbes said a lack of Match making is an oversight but what do they know about gaming? Once again, they are the consumer not the expert.

 • You make assumptions as to my knowledge or qualifications but based on what? Your post offers no insight as to the making of a game versus the social aspect of playing the game. You suggest that the devs at Bungie are more qualified than we believe them to be? Please, offer up some creditable theory/ fact based on YOUR knowledge. I'm honestly all ears. Bungie make games. The devs do what they do. Other departments will be responsible for the differing aspects contained within. As the reporter correctly stated, it was an oversight with nothing more than the intention of prolonging a limited experience. Alas, what would he know? You have based your above post on nothing except what you think YOU know and relied on key words like "naive" in an attempt to discredit MY opinion. Therein lies the problem. It is an opinion of what I prefer from a game, based on MY situation and social standing. You don't like that? Fair enough. Many ithers haooen to disagree with you. Ultimately, you have forgotten to offer up a plausible reason as to why MM won't work in Destiny. It has been built into FPS games for years, with no requirement to force a social interaction with people on the other side of the planet yet somehow, it shouldn't be part of Destiny? I now see the strength if your point. It stands up well. Thanks.

 • Destiny is modeled after MMOs sorry you weren't informed. Oh and that's why match making wasn't implemented.

 • Oh dear! I think you're getting your acronyms confused. MMO has no real bearing on whether MM should be implemented or not and is, in no way, a strong argument against implementation. MM is just another mechanic within a game to allow players to play together. Nothing more.
