chat needs to be opt-out and not opt-in. the anti-social people you speak of, myself included, and I've made a thread on such, need to be forced into interaction.
I made shit tons of friends playing black ops 1 simply because their multiplayer format pushed you into the circle of conversation thus creating the option to mute or converse.
when you're doing crucible, PoE 28 or a weekly chat should be opt out. most people will not toggle it off and subsequently friendships will manifest. when this happens it doesn't matter if they're level 34 nor does it matter if they have maxed out gjallarhorns...a relationship forms, not the converse equivalent to a classified, impersonal list of credentials (LFGs). you'll want to help your buddy. they're not a stranger on the corner panhandling anymore.
that's what this games come to and this is the best alternative, in my eyes, to no match making.

Exactly. I put on my headset day one and went around the Tower, Cosmodrome and Crucible... "Hello. Hello." I couldn't believe it when I found out there was no default chat. In Gears multiplayer lobbies, even people who didn't talk were gabbing by the third or forth match together.
