A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation. taken from Wikipedia A theory is middle ground between a hypothesis and a scientific law; it's been tested to be true and is thought by the scientific community to be true but hasn't been in existence/tested enough to be considered a law.

  • Close but no cigar. A law is a description of a observed phenomenon, a theory tells us how and why that phenomenon occurs. They are separate, and one does not become the other. Scientific theory is literally the highest "rank" a scientific explanation can attain.

  • Thanks for the correction. Learned about the scientific method a couple years back so I forgot some of the terms.

  • God cannot be a scientific hypothesis as it's impossible to do any tests about him.

He has thousands to (perhaps) millions of individuals that talk about his existence. He has a book that often dictates his mentality and his well-exhibited honesty. He's found in textbooks, historical studies, and he is also referenced in non-biblical materials as well as the personal testimonies that he has influenced upon the people that he has touched and the nation that he has helped to establish.

  • That's why it is, because you can not prove it false, because you can't do test on it.

  • If you mean hypothesis as in an idea then yes, God would be one. I'll need Britton Nye the Science Guy to confirm but I'm pretty sure that a hypothesis in the scientific term has to be testable otherwise it isn't scientific.

  • A hypothesis is a suggested solution for an unexplained occurrence that does not fit into current accepted scientific theory. The basic idea of a hypothesis is that there is no pre-determined outcome. For a hypothesis to be termed a scientific hypothesis, it has to be something that can be supported or refuted through carefully crafted experimentation or observation.

Its like intellectual exercise for me. I use it as a place to challenge my own level of understanding by analyzing and looking into what others say.
