Typical raid scenario
(Noob)
***
(Veteran)
You're in a raid, it's your first time attempting any of the bosses. You are lost and don't understand the tactics and where to position yourself during various phases.
***
You're in a raid, it's your 100th time completing it and your team is feared adequately but not entire sure of all of the mechanics involved in this fight.
You were told to "stack" on Mr Pwnzor. You're not sure what that means. On top of that, in the midst of raid insanity, you can't quickly or properly locate your raid leader.
***
You told your team to "stack" on you. They seem to understand but lose you mid battle. When the heat gets turned up they have an even harder time locating you. You're getting annoyed that you're being held back because teammates simply can't read in the middle of an encounter.

INTRODUCING - The Friendly Target Marking System! Fireteam leader will not be required to make marks. This is for instances where a stranger comes into your group and has the ability to lead, however you don't want to give leader rights for the chance of getting kicked in a raid you spent hours on. A member of the fireteam within the roster can be assigned "Promote to master marker" similar to "promote to leader" or "inspect player". This player now has the ability to mark friendly targets whether it be himself, a friend, or anyone in that matter. Useful for situations in sticking together and stacking on a spot (pretty much every final boss). The animation would be identical to the yellow light beacon that shine out of the House of Wolves patrol event chests, for a visual aid for teammates to see in the heat of the moment. On top of that, a gold triangle will be placed next to the players gamer tag for addition vision aid.
This will also work with Enemy target marking. Promote a player to master market (again, leader by default) and they will be able to mark enemies all the same. Instead of a yellow beacon it will be a dark red, and instead of a gold triangle it would be a red X or a Skull, similar to World of Warcraft. This is helpful for instances of Major spawns during boss fights or to mark a boss to let your team know "ignore the adds".
All the meanwhile this can lead up to another new feature of assigning the dpad buttons to inventory spaces and this new target market. Left dpad for friendly mark, right for enemy mark, down for heavy synth, up special synth... However all assignable.

Just make their gamertag a different color than the others. It could be player selectable like a shader.

Look up target marking in Portal. That'd be perfect. If you mark an object, it gets a colored emboss. Otherwise, there's a crosshairs. If the other player is not facing your mark, it pops up on the hud with an arrow (kinda like enemy planes in dogfight games). Would be so clutch.

Bump this.

Thanks for reads. This isn't blowing up like I hoped it would.

Edited by Majin_Buddha_: 5/27/2015 3:29:12 PMEveryone always says to use the d-pad, that's already mapped. My idea has always been either hold for the effect (use synth or mark) or tap the button to bring out ghost first then the assigned d-pad button. I only say this must be a thing because people wouldn't like losing their dancing. I personally wouldn't care, but I'm sure some would

This should always have been a thing. Well put.
