While you are right about the hand cannons and scout rifles, both of which are things that have bothered me as well, I disagree with you on the machine gun part. Most machine guns feed the belt above the chamber, and consequently the barrel, because the bolt needs room to slide back ejecting the last cartridge at which point the next round drops down into the action and gets chambered as the bolt slams forward.
