Until someone can explain how Glimmer is transformed into the projectile that is fired, or a cross section of said weapon, then you don't truly know the way it functions. Which is why I relate this topic to Austin Powers time travel. It's just a circular argument that will make you crosseyed. All in all, chances are this is because of cost vs man hrs, designing a large number of weapons. They are probably designed just like the ships, with a base model and attachments added to give each a more unique feel. It's fast and cost effective, but leads to some misalignments.
