Alot of things need to be brought in to perspective; the game is set 700 years or more later, meaning the guns should look futuristic, doesn't mean they should be necessarily practical.
2: if you played any halo and seen the human weapons you can see that they do have an understanding of guns.
3: it's a game, they don't have to make sense to look nice and have good stats.

DID have an understanding, apparently. Also, "looking nice" is subjective. Personally, I think a gun looks nice when I can look at it and think "yeah, this won't blow up in my face when I pull the trigger..." Case in point, Hawkmoon.

No land beyond looks beautiful
-
And relatively realistic. :D
-
Same with the fourth horseman

Yeah, it looks nice... but I can only accept it when I think of the triple barrels as being purely aesthetic.
-
Quadruple I believe
-
Which makes even less sense because the bottom barrel must act as the tube... (proven by the fact that it includes the pump)
-
Destiny doesn't make sense. We have bloody guns but we insist on hulk smashing everything

People will like or dislike whatever they want, however I would love to have seen an 'old gun styled' vendor which sold modern day guns similar to the starting machine gun, for those that wanted more realistic weaponry

Meh. I like the overall design. It's just the mechanical details, man...

I can see what you mean, I just try to find things I like and stick to them :')
