See, I wish a lot of new IPs go this route. Like, Destiny. Bet if Activision wasn't breathing down Bungie's neck we probably would have seen a way better Destiny. Kickstarter allows devs to build the games they want without corporate nagging at them to make it different.
Here's to one day Bungie becoming independent. Don't worry Deej, we the fans would still support you guys and if it were to happen, here's to a better new IP under kickstarter(:
Kickstarter allows devs to build the games they want without corporate nagging at them to make it different.
It also removes all accountability though. Take a look at Broken Age, for example: a budget of 3.3 million US dollars and he was right back begging for more after splitting it into two parts. Or look at the Tropes vs Women in gaming series. That was funded what, two or three years ago? She received a shitload of money for her series for everything that it would supposedly entail. The result was ripping other peoples' footage instead of actually playing the games herself, research that was faulty at best and outright disingenuous at worst, and a release schedule that would give Valve a run for the money. As much as publishers tend to overstep their bounds lately to the detriment of the developer, product, and consumer, we shouldn't forget that it's them who can actually light a fire under the ass of a developer so that the work gets done.
