I bring this up also because there are a ton of people crying for the religious/political post to stop & that it annoys them.
I understand these are passionate topics that can get heated but how would we ever advance as humans if we always avoid what makes us uncomfortable?
(Obviously I am not talking just about bungie forums, most topics don't end up constructive)

If you don't care that 52% of Americans believe that earth is less than ten thousand years old, well you should because parents are continuing to lie to their children and eventually everyone will be as stupid as the people who don't think its a big deal.
-
"Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people." - Socrates
Your answer is right there. Most people here don't want to discuss, they want to tell you they're right and you're an idiot if you disagree with them. It's discussing the flaws in other people under the guise of "enlightening" those who disagree. It's not everyone here, but many topics get hijacked and just turn into pissing matches.
-
Because people don't like being told they have to behave themselves.
-
Because people like max, xbox, and noiselesspurse exist
-
Eventually, it gets really -blam!-ing old. The entire subject has been beaten to death on every corner of the Internet (I even saw one religious/atheist arguement in the comments section of a Pornhub video).
-
Because most of them are troll threads now.
-
People have different beliefs. When stuff like that gets discussed throughout the public, arguments start
-
People are talking about these things? And here I thought we were only screaming and insulting each other.
-
People talk about that shit all the time around here, no idea what you're talking about. And Socrates didn't live in a world where every "idea" is parroted by some former source. The discussion that you get here is discussion you'd have with fellow students on the bathroom stall wall writing in Sharpie and feces.
-
Because...
BUSH DID 9/11 AND THEY WONT ADMIT THAT JET FUEL CANT MELT STEEL BEAMS
-
Because in most cases, nothing gets accomplished and it just turns into a belittling fest.
-
There in bad taste
-
They're very controversial topics and many people find them unsettling due to the amount of fights that occur due to said topics. I personally love debating and talking to people about these issues as long as they're respectful of my views. I try to be the same back but I'm only nice as long as you deserve it.
-
Because it's annoying to see pointless debates that everyone already knows will never come to a complete consensus.
-
"Constructive" is the key word. Understanding who we are in the world and who our neighbors are--religion, politics, and the like being key factors--is vital to progressing as a society. Yet most of us can't do it in a *constructive* or mature way, as it almost always devolves into anarchy. So most people would rather avoid these topics altogether, making them extremely taboo for the Thanksgiving table so to speak.
-
because children dont like talking about that stuff
-
Because they don't want to feel like their way of life is threatened. No second guessing...
-
It trolls up their escapism.
-
Religious people don't like discussing atheism because the truth hurts when spelt out.
-
Because it's a game and completely irrelevant
-
Because it's a perpetual cycle of trolling and inflammatory comments.
-
Because no one cares.
-
I hate talking about atheism or religions because they both say stupid stuff and start a war over it.
-
I like them as long as they start civil and unbiased (op does not show stance)
-
Because any internet discussions on those topics invariably and inevitably end up being the same circlejerk of fedora tipping and pseudointellectualism. I'd rather drop the pretense and acknowledge that I'm an idiot, and y'all should too.
-
Because nobody actually debates anything. It usually turns into verbal sparring.
