Crimson Skies? Rogue Squadron? Anybody remember these?
Seriously, there's nothing but first-person shooters (and shooters in general) in the action department these days. Halo, Destiny, Call of Dooty, Battlefield, Titanfall, and dozens of others.
Does no one enjoy action-oriented flying games anymore? I had a blast play Star Wars: Rogue Squadron on my N64 when I was a kid (still do, in fact) and even better was Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge back in 2003; in my opinion, the best arcade flight-sim of all time. I only ever got to play the single-player, since I didn't have Xbox Live back then, but I enjoyed every minute of it.
After that awesome (if brief) space mission in Halo: Reach with the Sabre, I though maybe we'd be getting some kind of PvE space combat in Destiny with the jumpships in the game, but no dice; in the end, it turned out jumpships were just for show. I don't know about you, but I call that more disappointing than Destiny's lackluster story.
What about you guys? Anyone else miss arcade flight-sims? Anyone think they should maybe add space combat to PvE in Destiny? Or maybe someone should resurrect Crimson Skies, or continue the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series with some new games. I'm tired of being restricted to running around on the ground with a gun; it's high time flying games made a comeback.
