The X-shaped glyphs that appear on-screen whenever you harm someone; how important are they to you?
They do feel nice, and they're very convenient if you can't see what you're hitting. I only just noticed that they've been around for a long time (both Battlefronts and CoD: Finest Hour had them) but they seem like a necessity nowadays; even mobile shooters have them.
Are they used for anything besides player information? Do they help check for lag, etc? Or are they just a polite convention, like parsley?

They are just helpful because they let you know how accurate you are

I guess nowadays theyre just mandatory, they don't exactly help me or show that I'm lagging or not.
