Hypothetically, if aliens came to earth and we found out they're real wouldn't that contradict all religions? Do you think this would pull people away from religion? Do you think religions would change to fit aliens into the belief systems?
-
Actually never in the Bible does it mention aliens not existing. It never says they do, and it never says they don't. In fact somewhere in revelations I think it even talks about beings from the sky's above. So really if aliens came, Christianity would remain the way it is.
-
"In the beginning, God said '-blam!- life on other planets #aintgonnahappen'" Yup, pretty sure the Bible begins with that line.

If aliens showed up. You humans would enslave and/or destroy them given the chance.

I WANT IT TO BE CLEAR I AM NOT TRYING TO OFFEND ANYONE MY QUESTION AT THE BOTTOM IS GENUINE. I am just trying to understand the logic behind some of the things people believe and i know that will vary person to person. So the general consensus from everyone is: No aliens wouldn't go against religion because they aren't mentioned specifically. I have seen a minority case of religions could have misinterpreted aliens so that should also be considered. With that being said i have a few more questions but first: 1) People don't have a negative response to the question of aliens in regards to religion. 2) We have no clue if aliens actually exist. 3) We can't prove they exist as of now that i am aware of. 4) The logic with aliens is because scripture doesn't specifically touch upon them they could exist. So my question is: Why do theist get offended when atheist use the "disprove my unicorn" argument? With the logic of #4 wouldn't they be just as likely to exist as aliens, Big Foot, etc? I understand tensions can get high in an argument and maybe its just the fact that its questioning God's existence but how do you guys feel about that?

Id imagine nothing would contracted my beliefs, nor Buddhism, Hinduism, Shinto, Sikhism and a bunch more.
-
Due to the Ancient Alien Theory, all religions would be proven false. The gods they were imagining were just Aliens

The existence of extraterrestrial life does not necessarily mean that the ancient aliens hypothesis is true. That said, I'm uncertain as to how it would contradict all religions. Perhaps some of the "lesser-established" sects so to speak like the millions of Evangelical offshoot denominations and maybe some Islamic Wahhabi sects (the Evangelical fundies of the Islamic world) would collapse, but the main established bodies of the big religions like the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches for Christendom and whatever Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism's equivalents are would also probably survive. I can't speak for the other religions because I do not fully understand their doctrines and teachings and therefore cannot give an informed answer as to whether their theology is compatible with extraterrestrial life, but I'm pretty sure that even if it is/was not, they could still adapt it to the reality. Religions have been doing this all the time--rethinking and developing their worldview with the new obstacles that they encounter in the world. Only the fundamentalists who cannot concede any change or development will die out. So you can probably count on Evangelicals and Islamic terrorists to decrease in number. I know from my own Eastern Orthodox religion that extraterrestrials wouldn't really contradict anything. We tend to see our religion and the effects of it as a cosmic event--in other words, that the events we believe Christ accomplished affected not only the human race but the entire cosmic reality of the universe as a whole. Therefore, it probably wouldn't be too hard to reconcile this with extraterrestrials.

Id get the females preggo and have hybrid children things
wouldn't that contradict all religions?
No, not really. There are quite a few religions that don't have any specific creation story, and some (are there more than one?) even believe the aliens created us, whatever alien species it is that they believe in.
-
Ayyy lmaooo
-
I just saw your username and remembered who you are. You're incapable of understanding beliefs.
-
Aliens don't really disprove God I guess, I'd image things would be mostly normal.
-
Since when do aliens have anything to do with Religion?
-
No, religions in general never rule out the possibility of there being extraterrestrial lifeforms, so nothing would be contradicted, plus for all we know aliens may have their own beliefs.
-
No because there would be people who are die hard whatever they are.
-
I think it would if the aliens were hostile
-
Errr... No. Why would you even think that?
-
If memory serves me correctly the current pope publicly announced that the existence of aliens would not go against church doctrine. Aliens or not my beliefs will not be changing.
-
Not if they'd have flappy birdlike wings and were dressed in white robes, playing trumpets.
-
It wouldn't draw me away from my religion.
-
They will -blam!- us with their tentacles ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
-
I see no reason that religion would have a problem with other species existing. I know if I were God, I would sure as hell make more than one species to worship me.

Edited by The Fool: 5/5/2015 11:14:58 AMas far as i know (which is quite little) alien civilizations aren't mentioned or ruled out in any of the religions and could be seen as just another of god's creations. or they could be seen as gods themselves depending on their superiority, appearance and the kind of religion one follows (e.g. any polytheism).
-
That could happen due to the law of probability
-
The seti institute is required by law to report to the U.S. Government if they ever find signs of alien life. So that the government can decide weather or not to publish it as it may cause mass societal breakdown if suddenly all these stupid people turned out to be wrong. I would not at all be surprised if we did find evidence of intelligent alien life, but the government/universities didn't say anything.
