I've come to find the evolution/creation debate quite pointless and boring.
I grew up in an pro-evolutionary education system and also spent a number of years surrounded by creationist minded Christians during a period of my life in a church.
Both sides do have rationale and interesting perspectives to their arguments in some way. I'm a fairly open minded individual and believe there's possibilities in anything. But... I DONT KNOW BECAUSE I WASNT THERE... AND THEY DONT KNOW BECAUSE THEY WERENT THERE.
It's very simple in fact. Because we just don't know... Nobody walking this earth right at this moment was there during that time, nobody ever witnessed any of this. So none of us really know.
In both cases it's faith. Faith in the words of the religion and teachings of religious leaders, and it's faith in science with math, education and opinions of people who are usually smarter than me who can baffle me with science.
But, no matter how much scientists try to baffle me with science, or I hear a religious perspective trying to convict my conscience about my afterlife status or position with God, I have my own peace not to let it settle in my head.
Why, again, none of them were there, so none of them are right, and none of you are right....
So unless you were there, then you don't have credibility to argue your side... If you were, then I'm all ears.
Evolution and Creationism are both faith based belief systems. Fact.
Edit: For clarification, I'm not an Atheist. I have a comfy seat on top of the fence. Life's a lot simpler up here.

That's quite hypocritical.

How so? I'm at peace with myself, and I have my own reason, which I trust more than others. In my early years at school I was taught one way, which was a watered down interpretation of science, but I believed half and questioned the other. Was at church for many years and was taught another way, but my conscience was never settled because of being spoon fed more interpretation from people. So where do I stand? Choose a side just because I have to? I don't feel that's hypocritical at all. Being a hypocrite is listening to both sides of the story and quietly rejecting your own conscience when you find logic in something that is opposed to the beliefs you stand so firmly in. Lying to ourselves is the most hypocritical thing we can do. Especially when we're defending something that we actually know a minute percentile about. We can fill our heads with facts and knowledge, but what does it change? Nothing. We can comfortably battle it out with others to debate our beliefs, but what does it gain? Nothing. Life goes on and no matter how much knowledge we gain in a lifetime, rest assured the majority of it has been gained through theory, which is an idea. Doesn't mean it really happened. We humans and have only been here for a small blip in the time of this world and universe, so we can't know everything, and we don't know everything. Simple fact of the matter (in my opinion) is evolutionary science or creation based science will always stop at a gaping chasm of "We don't know what happened here". This is undeniable, so what is the inevitable? "Let's plug the gaps with more theory". Believe what you want to believe and follow what you want to follow, but in my own personal position is I've come to a simple and comfortable conclusion, I really don't know... I'm not trying to be belligerent or argumentative. This is the way I think.
-
So anything you haven't personally witnessed you don't think is true in regards to science? I respect your opinion but to put science on the same level as faith is insulting to people who spend their lives trying to make scientific advances versus a belief system that is just there.

For me, that's actually part of my problem. I see a lot of sense and logic on both sides of the fence. I am a fairly deep thinker and pondered and fought over this subject for many years, but as it is actually a battle of logic and theories, I was never able to stand to one side and say this is where I am. In time I just let go, and just accepted I really don't know where we came from, or in fact where we're going. I'm lazy to delve in specific argumental points to promote or defend a particular theory of concept, purely because it's parroting and promoting someone else's "theory". Wether it be science or a heartfelt and convinced religious standing, in the end, we don't know the roots of a determined concept or idea, because it's all just theories. Science may be able to come up with a fantastic manner of scientific investigation or whatever, but it wasn't too long ago that we thought the world was flat. I also find that the scientific community is particularly biased against a creationist standpoint. Wether it is a potential or not, there must always be a point in science where they need to admit they don't actually know instead of offering up more theories to fill in the gaps of what they can't figure out. I do have a lot of respect for Scientists who dedicate their lives in their profession, but I'm also respectful of people I knew who dedicate their lives for other people. Obviously that may be a different type of pursuit, but it's a dedication nonetheless. Appreciate your respectful response.

I am not trying to be rude i have genuine questions for you. Do you understand there is a huge difference between a theory vs Scientific Theory?
-
Not a problem. Don't worry about it. Simple answer to that would be no. I can't see any difference between a theory and scientific theory.

It's ok thanks Britton. I've said my piece. So I'll refrain from holding myself up to the flame on this one. I gave up on intellectual dick swinging a long time ago and I don't have an axe to grind. Quite surprising to read the link. It really does show a high level of arrogance against those deemed dumb enough to question evolution or science... Even to the point of inferring anyone who doesn't believe isn't "like us" or plain stupid or uneducated. That's a bullshit attitude. Never know... One day something monumental may happen and we'll all have a Christopher Columbus moment... Enjoy

Its not bullshit to understand basic word definitions. Grow up.
-
Your elitist attitude is bullshit. This is nothing to do with definitions. Pull your neck in ffs

I did read the OP, and I thought it was well written, but as I read further through into the replies, it became all too apparent that knowledge has gone to your head and you're full of it. You even referred a disbeliever as not "like us". How arrogant of you. I grew up a long time ago pal

That is everything to do with it, as that's what the entire post is about.
