Tired of getting killed by Defenders in bubbles? Have you had enough of entering wards, only to be force fed mouthfuls of buckshot? Maybe you, like so many of the rest of us, have simply taken an interest in these majestic creatures and would like to learn more about Defenders.
Well, look no further! I have written this helpful field guide to aid you, should you ever encounter a wild Defender while out in your adventures.
The first and most important thing to keep in mind when you see a Defender, is that within their natural habitat of the Ward of Dawn, Defenders can be unpredictable and extraordinarily dangerous. If you ever see the tell-tale purple bubble of a Defender, you should give it a wide berth.
It is no secret that Defenders are ferociously territorial. They rarely leave their bubbles, and they savagely massacre all but the most skilled of guardians that try to enter it.
Curiously, however, studies have shown that a Defender's Ward of Dawn emits some form of energy that lures guardians to it, and entices them to enter. You must resist this subconscious pull toward the Defender's shield.
Because if you go anywhere near that bubble, the odds are not your friend. And if you enter that bubble, than you have no friends. -Because you are alone. In a 10 foot by 10 foot room, with an armored gorilla that happens to be holding a fully loaded shotgun.
Survivor testimonies vary, but experts agree that Defenders draw superhuman strength from their bubble. Reports of increased durability, weapons doing less damage than normal, and the Defender's weapons inflicting heavier damage than expected are all commonly reported. Some survivors even tell stories of going blind upon entering a Defender's bubble, but such claims have yet to be substantiated.
A Defender builds his entire setup around excelling in this hyper-close quarters environment, and is at his most powerful when in his bubble. Because of this, the Defender WANTS you to walk into his bubble. He may even dance with you to show he is friendly, but you must not dance back!
To a Defender, dancing is nothing like what you do to pass time in the Tower. It is much more like the Haka war dance a Maori performs before removing the heads of his enemies.
If you dance at him, he will take it that you have accepted his challenge, and will respond by dipping out of the bubble just long enough to toss a magnetic grenade onto your face. He will then engage in a second ceremonial dance to honor your death, as the grenade throws you into the ceiling like a rag doll.
Under no circumstances should you EVER enter the bubble; and unless you have a super handy, do not even go near it.
Do not shoot the bubble with any form of weapon. Doing so only strengthens the Defender within -strength which he passes to allies in the form of additional orbs of light. Even the most formidable weapons such as the notorious Thorn, the mighty Last Word, and even the fabled Gjallarhorn have no effect on the bubble, and only aid the Defender's main goal of drawing enemy fire and supporting teammates.
The Ward of Dawn is not invincible however; and both it, and the Defender within are vulnerable to the energies present in Supers.
So if you encounter a Defender in the wild, remember: You can kill the Defender easily with a super attack. However if you don't have a super handy, don't forget the Defender's territorial nature. Don't approach the bubble, don't dance at the Defender, and never NEVER under any circumstances enter the Defender's ward. (Unless your super is the Fist of Havoc.)
If you remember these simple tips, you will be well prepared the next time you encounter a wild Defender. Take care out there, Guardians!
Hello OP (or anyone who has decided to open the spoiler and read all of this).
I'm one of the Bungie.Net Ninjas. We may have met before, we may have interacted, you might have heard of us, or you may have no clue as to who we are and what we do. Well, this little note is to explain some of the things we do. One of the major roles we play is to handle the reports that come in whenever a member clicks on the "Report" button, to let us know that there is a post, a topic or a user that either doesn't understand or isn't following the rules that we all agreed to follow when we joined. But that's not the Ninja function that brought on this note.
The reason I am writing this is because I have retagged your thread. Bungie.Net uses hashtags to designate their major forums and to help keep things organized. Your OP (original post) was opened, created or given a hashtag that well, wasn't the best choice. It could have been that you were browsing through the various forum/tags that are available on the site or app, and clicked on "New Topic" while in a forum that didn't "match up" with the subject matter of your OP. Or, you may have thought "this belongs here", when unfortunately, it doesn't.
That's another role of the Bungie.Net Ninjas. We not only try to keep things fun, pleasant and welcoming here by removing rule-breakers, but we also want EVERY good topic to have the best chance to survive, thrive, find the right audience, and get lots of on-topic replies. And so, I have retagged your topic to move it to the forum where it has the best chance of doing that.
I give you my word that I have not altered a single letter or character of your Original Post, just placed this message below it and set the tag to better describe your topic. You may notice that you are unable to edit this post anymore. That is a part of the system, and I apologize for any inconvenience that it may have caused. I've not replied or commented on your OP, since this message would most likely be "off-topic" to your thread and when members see a Ninja or Mentor (who are volunteers from the community) or even a Bungie employee post, they tend to go a little crazy and the disruption to the thread becomes a distraction. I don't want that to happen to your thread. I want it to be in the BEST place possible, to be seen by the largest audience who is looking for this sort of topic, I want it to take root, get replies, grow strong and make these forums a better place.
If you have any questions, you should feel free to PM me. My name is now in the upper right corner of your OP where it says "edited by".
Thanks for your patience, thanks for being a part of this community, thanks for taking the time to read all of this (I hid it in a spoiler so that anyone who clicked couldn't complain about "too long, didn't read"), and thank you in advance for creating your future topics with the forum/tag location in mind.

Almost 10 years later and I still come back to this to smile. Best post of all time imo :)

Low key they got a buff, a bubble tanked 3 golden gun shots and still didn't break.
-
NECOBUMP
-
Defenders get shutdown by everything.... ..hell even a Nightstalker can Invis or Shadestep into the bubble and shotgun the Titan EZ. Defenders are great in PvP don't get me wrong, but you can't play offensively or defensively freely with Ward of Dawn. You have to smart and be prepared to get muggled once your bubble is up. Today I was playing and kept using my bubble so that my team could capture the spark and get Blessing, while I sat in the back and picked off sneaky enemies. Control/Rift Examples: Offensive uses: use WoD to capture the other teams capture point Defensive uses: protecting a capture point with WoD Supportive: placing WoD in a key point on the map that augments your teams chances at victory
-
Super the bubble or avoid the area. Don't fight there war. When I played my Titan I would always shout, "Welcome to the Thunderdome!" with each activation
-
The defenders' natural predator is the illustrious Nighthawk.
-
Bubble, helm of Saint 14,amour of light oh and of course fully loaded immobus which grants infinite ammo whilst inside
-
Well done. The only fact you touched upon, but didn't fully explain is that the bubble is a no win situation even dealing with supers. We want you to feel compelled, challenged even, to activate your golden gun, or nova bomb, or hammer of sol and waste 50-100% of your super attacking our bubble. It's like a reverse kamikaze, we want you to waste a super that should have easily been a double-triple kill on removing our attackless bubble. Its a trap. We lure you to your death, or we lure you to our death.

Edited by PandaScream: 5/1/2015 10:46:58 PMHonestly the bubble titan is the weakest class now its how you use it Bladedancers and goldengun easily destroy that titan... Striker titan all they have to do is hulk smash Void Walker just bomb them Sunsinger run in and melee Bubble titan just run away bc you cant really do anything.... <--- see my point
-
I love defender now with armamentarium and suppressor grenades. Shutting down sunsingers, blade dancers, stormcallers and hammer of bro's like they're going out of business. I love throwing a suppresser nade at a hammer of sol and when it disappears and he hasn't realized it he throws another melee hahaha.

Me+WoD+Helm of Saint 14+Armor of Light+Shotgun=Invincibility
Curiously, however, studies have shown that a Defender's Ward of Dawn emits some form of energy that lures guardians to it, and entices them to enter.
- Don't, don't head towards the light! - I can't help it, it's so beautifu--BZZZZZZZT. Nice post, OP. Enjoyed that.

As a hunter, I was in Crucible. All of a sudden, a wild Defender Titan appears. He points at me and dances. That bastard. I pulled out my shotgun and sprint into that purple shit. Little did I realize, Helm of Saint-14 had been equipped. At this point since I wasn't dead, I knew he must be playing with me. How dare he. So I threw out a melee and HIT HIM. And since I was a bladedancer, I'm invisible and shit. Now I can tell this Titan is scared. I blindly start shooting my shotgun everywhere. Right after the 4th shotgun blast, I see " +100-kill" on my screen. This feat remains one of my greatest kills ever.
-
In PvP, I drop my bubble around a corner in a high-traffic area, so people activate their super to kill me, but I'm gone.
-
Lmao this, this made my night
-
Bumped by a gorilla
-
I read the title and immediately thought of finding nemo and the bubble fish.
-
If people wise up to coming in my bubble, I slap on weapons of light and bring the pain to them. 2 burst deaths everywhere. The killfeed looks nice. It's fun to chase people round as a juggernaught of death
-
I main a defender and this made my day lol nice work

Oh, and if the Defender now is wielding one of those blazing swords ...take this entire message and put it in caps and underline it.
-
Crikey mate! That was funny, even more so when read as a Steve Irwin impression

Until you meet a hardcore defender who dishes everything.
