A Week of Meditation

Meditation, although there are many forms of it, is loosely defined as the act or process of spending time in quiet thought. This can mean many things, you can reflect on who you are as a person, the choices you've made in the past, or even things outside of the self such as abstract philosophical or spiritual concepts. Whatever your reasoning, meditation is a practice that has been done for thousands of years and survived into the modern day. It has also been shown to have beneficial effects on one's mental and physical health, ranging from a reduction of stress and anxiety to an aid in reducing high blood pressure and respiratory issues. All in all, there are many potential benefits and very few potential consequences. And for that reason, i've decided to dedicate at least 30 minutes of my time each night for the coming week to meditating in a quiet and peaceful environment. My aim is to better focus or "center" myself, as well as a few other goals i'll refrain from mentioning right now. But regardless, the reason i'm bringing this up is just in case anyone would like to try it with me. If not, that's fine. This might not be something everyone is into. For those who would like to give it a shot, welcome along. There are different ways to meditate, and not everyone will go about it the same way. For me, i'll likely wait until later in the night, shut off all of the lights and electronics in my room, and leave myself to the stillness and darkness of the night, save for perhaps the candlelight of my shrine. If nothing else, it'll be a relaxing experience. For anyone else who's interested in participating, post whatever method you plan to attempt, and later on describe your experience when it's concluded. Maybe post about what you chose to reflect on, and just go from there. I'm not expecting any epic tales to come out of this experiment, but I do hope anyone who chooses to participate does take away something. Anyway, rambling concluded. Thank you for reading. :)

  • I know this post is old, but whatever. Meditation has helped me greatly in a lot of ways. Meditation is something that I do everyday, or atleast try to. Your mind ever since you are born is constantly going on, and is never in any break even during sleep. Meditation although cannot clear the mind completely, it rings it pretty darn close. (Now some professional meditators and monks have mastered this and can go into a state of complete blank). This is the one time that your mind truly gets to relax. That small amount of relaxation for the mind can help the mind in the long run. It is said that your mind grows fatigue at old age, when can lead to memory loss or just strain on the brain in general, meditating and letting the mind rest is a very good way to avoid this from happening.
