I've gotta say, I feel like items take away from the competitive aspect if the game, but are really suitable for a party style game. The way I play, items are almost never included.

Depends. When I really wanna get at it. No items , omega stages. Otherwise it's way more fun leaving items on and playing the normal stages. Way more funny too.

I have a great set up for Smash Wii u: No items (I use Smash ball for the fun of it but u don't have to) with 2-3 stock and a time of 5min to make sure the matches don't go on forever

I always turn them in because they make the games more frantic and fun. I'm not a very competitive smash player.

The only game where items weren't intrusive and annoying was the first one.

I would like to see items implemented as an option to turn on in a local match, but for online games, they should be turned off all the time.
