So apparently Bungie tried to patch the Archon Priest Strike in 1.1.2 without telling anyone and did it poorly. You can no longer snipe from above the Vex Waves spawn half way through the strike at all without risk of breaking the whole strike. I had read that you couldn't use the highest rock anymore so I wasn't even that far away. I was sniping from where you shoot the 4 goblins right when you first enter the area. I made it to the second wave just fine and then everything de-spawned and I had to go re-engage the door. After killing the first wave a second time nothing else spawned and I couldn't re-engage the door, I had to just go back to orbit.
Just trying to make some other people aware so others don't have to waste their time like I did. After some more research a decent way around this is to just leave one enemy and run down there to kill it then sprint back up to the top.
UPDATE: (Thanks beedel): "This is unintentional" per bungie: https://twitter.com/bungie/status/590576802713706496
Edit - added bold and attempted to clarify what is broken.

Edited by xBIG_LOGx: 4/21/2015 6:53:47 PMI like this though. Makes you have to engage the enemies
-
"Learn to use a primary! - it's called primary for a reason! " Hahaha. Bungie wants you to work for all those ascendent mats.
-
I snipe from the fallen ketch and I had to do the first wave twice but i still got through
-
Something "unintentional" in every patch. Ducking bungie needs to realize their testing process blows!
-
I need something to spend glimmer on so if it happens to me I can at least farm glimmer. Been at 25000 for weeks now.
-
Unintentional
-
Yep. Didn't have any issues from the cliffs, but if u snipe from the ship it will make you redeploy your ghost and start over after completing the first wave.
-
After killing the first wave a second time nothing else spawned and I couldn't re-engage the door, I had to just go back to orbit..
Same thing happened to me today.
-
I'm not sure where you mean. I've always ran down to the hob spawn near the door. Where is this spot so I don't stand there
-
in other news, all sniper rifle scopes have been removed from the game, and all sniper rifles must be shot from the hip at close range.
-
Bungie tweeted earlier today that it was unintentional and they're looking into it.
-
Yeah unintentional... The nf after it is archon priest. No one buys dat bs
-
Just happened to me after first wave. Of course they bug the nightfall. Why not? It's Bungie.
-
Earlier we had finished the last wave where you kill the three Hydra's, door did not open. Instead it reset and after the first wave nothing else appeared and the door remained closed. After a few minutes of nothing happeneing we just left. Also, in the Nexus strike a few days ago the enemies were acting like we werent there, that was really weird.
-
So bungie makes a change where you actual have to Try and use skill and you call it a bug?
-
I no you'll all argue that snipers should be used far enough away that it gets you out of the fire fight, but this is a video game a FPS you're suppose to have enemy's shooting at you, sniping AI's that can't shoot back is just cheap skill less and boring.if that's what you enjoy you can still go to patrol and do it but don't complain that the game doesn't reward you for it. Nightfalls are meant to be challenging don't complain that things can shoot you
-
TLDR; Tried to snipe from a spot where I can't possibly take damage from and it doesn't work anymore. If you go down for one or two enemies it will work just fine
-
Isn't the nightfall supposed to be difficult? Hence, the better rewards. Should people be rewarded for target practise? Hmmm. Interesting.
-
Not sure if that was the case or not but we did get a jammed door too last night
-
I totally support long range tactics. They are paramount to Destiny's end game content and have been a major part of military strategy since the revolutionary war. Set yourself up in a position to do the most damage to the enemy while exposing yourself to the least from the enemy. That being said, I wonder if this wasn't done as a fix but rather a need for memory on the venus system. The changes they made to the citadel in preparation for HOW are extreme. They may well have had to shrink a few existing playable areas to free up memory for the new ones. Just a speculation on my part.

Just finished it 30min ago. Snipped from the rock just before the bridge. No issues.
-
I just did it and it worked just fine. Two guys were up on the perch, and I was around the bridge area running around. It helps to have sniper support.

Usually I snipe up on the rock and my friends go down and fight.....

Missing from patch notes: Fixed a glitch where the waves on the Archon strike always spawned correctly, causing the door to always open. A functional strike was not what we intended. The strike has been modified to bring it in line with the glitchiness of the rest of our content.
