So apparently Bungie tried to patch the Archon Priest Strike in 1.1.2 without telling anyone and did it poorly. You can no longer snipe from above the Vex Waves spawn half way through the strike at all without risk of breaking the whole strike. I had read that you couldn't use the highest rock anymore so I wasn't even that far away. I was sniping from where you shoot the 4 goblins right when you first enter the area. I made it to the second wave just fine and then everything de-spawned and I had to go re-engage the door. After killing the first wave a second time nothing else spawned and I couldn't re-engage the door, I had to just go back to orbit.
Just trying to make some other people aware so others don't have to waste their time like I did. After some more research a decent way around this is to just leave one enemy and run down there to kill it then sprint back up to the top.
UPDATE: (Thanks beedel): "This is unintentional" per bungie: https://twitter.com/bungie/status/590576802713706496
Edit - added bold and attempted to clarify what is broken.

This strike isn't even hard! You seriously need to snipe from the highest rocks? Bad players are just bad. Have to cheese everything, why are you even playing if not to challenge yourself? How can anyone feel any sort of accomplishment this way?
-
They just tweeted it's a glitch, unintentional.
-
Blades of crota are broken as well, and thus the bounties
-
Unintentional my arse. Thus is just another slap in the face for people who prefer solo play, and just another example of bungie dictating to us how THEY want us to play, and not how WE like to. I expect to find many other stealth nerfs in the weeks to come before HoW.
-
Solo up to the priest without issue. Stop hiding so far away.
-
I guarantee this was intentional. But because it resulted with egg in their face, Bungie is going to straight up lie and claim it was a mistake. If they can do something that will increase the grind in this game, you damn well know they're going to try it
-
Its not like its anymore difficult to solo this. As long as you go no further than the rocks directly next to the bridge where the hobgoblins spawn, you'll be golden. Deploy Dinklebot. Run to the topmost ridge to snipe. When enemies are down to the last few kills, jump down to the rocks just before the bridge and snipe from there. New waves spawn. Rinse and repeat. Easy, it just takes a little more time is all.
-
Its not a bug, u need to stay close to the main platform and not run like a noob to snipe ...
-
Hopefully they fix it
-
Happened to me twice as well. I ended up leaving one or two goblins alive after sniping and then get close to finish them off. Seemed to work. Although I also blew myself up with a rocket...twice lol
-
does anyone know if sniping from the big space boat/ship causes this issue?
-
I just got through it finally, and my reward 11 asc energy, lol I don't care I've been spending them on IB weapons...
-
Did it 3 times.. No problem.. Ps4
-
I shoot from the ketch, so I have no issue regardless
-
same thing happened to me, had to go Deploy Ghost about 3 times before it finally worked.
-
Same happened to me,ghosted the door 3 times.
-
Just did it no problem
-
They are fixing it
-
Why would they care if we snipe from a distance? Kinda the whole point of a sniper rifle.
-
Seems like a bug otherwise surely there would be a message like move closer or something.
-
Same thing happened to me. I was sniping from the ketch, went down to kill the few remaining goblins in the first and second waves (so i was almost in the middle of where the enemy spawns in) but it kept resetting. After about four times of having to activate my ghost it glitched out so i couldn't even unlock the door.
-
I did it after the patch and was playing from the hobgoblin bridge and it works fine. If they despawned from there you wouldn't be able to be strategic around the Axis Hobgoblins that spawn back there.
-
This just happened to me, it made me breach the door again and I thought oh well no biggie. After the first wave (for the second time) the strike froze
-
I have always played it like this from the beginning. Always shoot from up top but always leave the last on alive, run down pick up ammo, shoot the last one and run back up top.
-
I did the same thing and nothing got broke.
-
Had the same issue on ps3.The work around you mentioned worked perfect.
