So apparently Bungie tried to patch the Archon Priest Strike in 1.1.2 without telling anyone and did it poorly. You can no longer snipe from above the Vex Waves spawn half way through the strike at all without risk of breaking the whole strike. I had read that you couldn't use the highest rock anymore so I wasn't even that far away. I was sniping from where you shoot the 4 goblins right when you first enter the area. I made it to the second wave just fine and then everything de-spawned and I had to go re-engage the door. After killing the first wave a second time nothing else spawned and I couldn't re-engage the door, I had to just go back to orbit.
Just trying to make some other people aware so others don't have to waste their time like I did. After some more research a decent way around this is to just leave one enemy and run down there to kill it then sprint back up to the top.
UPDATE: (Thanks beedel): "This is unintentional" per bungie: https://twitter.com/bungie/status/590576802713706496
Edit - added bold and attempted to clarify what is broken.

Unintentional, LOL. Bungie has wasted most of their time changing anything that gives players an advantage. This, the Atheon teleporting, etc. Had they actually allocated those resources to something useful, they could've created several new strikes by now. Or maybe addressed some of the actual problems with this game. But instead, they focus on trivial little things like this because they think it will make the game tougher, and you'll play a little longer. This is what they do, rather than actually develop some worthwhile new content. There will be no raid, but they've changed yet something else that no one but them cared about. Lmfao, these guys are a joke now...

Went through it last night with no issues.
-
Hahaha...I had NO problem with NF. And I did it with the NECROCHASM. #SPOOKY
-
You can still from the highest rock. You just need some1 ALIVE standing closer
-
I was always the one to say "hey why can't I hop on top of this building and snipe" because they put invisible walls on every single overwatch position you attempt to get into. The one spot they have that you can have some fun sniping on that cliff they take out. This game is supposed to favor ALL gameplay types but to me it seems it only favors the warlock/Titan style of play where you charge everything with a shotgun. Is this fun? is it tactical? If it's your style of play fine but lets not down other people because to choose to play different then you.

can confirm. happened to me yesterday
-
I had the same issue yesterday trying to solo nightfall. I was sniping from the highest rock and after the first wave, i had to re-engage the door. Did this like 3 times until 2 other ppl joined my team and we got closer to the enemies which worked fine.
-
Happened to me soloing Nightfall lol. Luckily I could reengage the door and the rest of it worked fine xD
-
Go down and fight like a man my group did that and we survived
-
Everything was fine when i did it
-
It's not broken I did it 3 time and non of what you explain happened.

Edited by IndianaJet72: 4/22/2015 3:38:32 PMThe funny part is once you get to the Priest....he is the easiest boss to beat now. When I did it last night, he went down in about 15 seconds and between the Gallys and the sniper headshots he couldn't move from the spot where he exited his little prison pod.

It makes for FANTASTIC glimmer farming. Just pop your Blue Polyphage, sit back, and make bank!
-
Why you're sniping all the way up there I don't know, the raised area above where everything spawns is a great spot anyway. Just watch out for the Hobgoblins that spawn on the second wave and you're golden!!
-
This happened to my team, we restarted it and I stayed on the top rock and it worked just fine
-
Happened while soloing nightfall had to redo first wave but the rest was fine after I got closer
-
happened to us on one of our nightfalls/ we thought it was weird when it happened.
-
As long as you run down there and kill the last enemy and let the others spawn it will work and you can still snipe from your original position. My group tested it yesterday.
-
Same here
-
I did it that way three times yesterday without problems
-
Had no problems yesterday but today it glitched. We were sniping at first. Second wave took a long time to "load", so we went down and didn't snipe for it. 3rd wave would not spawn. Forced to orbit. I love how bungie says it's unintentional. Total bullshit.
-
Only happend once when I was helping two others.. They were probably up there just before the invite. Shit happens, retry, problem solved.
-
It is no prob, with all burns, easiest nightfall I've ever done
-
It's not broken dumbass... I like how you try to exaggerate the glitch. I did 3 nightfalls and 3 weeklys fine.

Edited by CityWide 74: 4/22/2015 12:25:22 PMI ran it 3 times yesterday without any problems. But I go to the fight and don't run from it that might be why. But if it's better for you to snipe from long distance then that's how you play and it's cool with me. If bungie did make it where you can't snipe from long distance the why put guns in the game that can hit the target from great distances. Sorry that this affects peoples play style. Hope that people can find other safe areas. Oh I read where you can still snipe from there just kill the last enemy in the wave up close. By the way this is not directed at the op. It's just an in general.

I did 3 yesterday, one with each character, and while I didn't do that each time, I did it with my lower level Hunter and nothing bad happened...
