Persona 4 spoilers!!! [spoiler]Adachi[/spoiler]
So a god basically wants to mess with humanity so she gifts a select few people with the strange gift to peek into the collective human subconscious, using this villain as a catalyst for chaos.
This villain is simultaneously both threatening and pathetic, eager for power yet bored out of his mind, wanting the spotlight yet also wanting to remain hidden, has the power of a god yet is still fearful of being caught since that means that the game would be over.
And it all started with the murder of the love of his life, who didn't even know he existed. This tipped him over the edge and began a mass murder spree as he plays with others like toys.

Persona 4 in think was originally on playstation 2 or 3. They recently remastered it for a game called persona 4 golden which is on the playstation vita.

Also the game can be very comedic at times and is very stylish. It's the only game I can think of that has a gay dungeon. And I mean a gay dungeon, like the whole thing is a giant bathhouse haunted by a floppy handed flamboyant gay demon. Also it has an 8 bit dungeon which was amazing.

Also the game doesn't hold your hand at all in solving the murder mystery. It gives you the clues but there's no hidden narrations or cutscenes that show you who the villain is. When it comes time to make an accusation of who is the murderer the game gives you the option to pick ANYONE you have met through the course of the game, which is about 20-25 people. And if you choose wrong, the game ends and you get the bad ending. If you choose right, then the reveal is glorious and the game progresses. On a side note, if you play right, you also have the option of choosing to side with the villain and you get the "evil wins" ending.

It's a game but i think they made it into an anime. The game is called persona 4 and is a jrpg.
