Hello everybody. Welcome to my rant. I am warning you right now, this post is going to be a body of words. It took me about 4 hours to think how I wanted to word it.
I will not be ranting or hating on bungie. Instead, I will discuss their partner in crime, Activision.
Enjoy.
Let's throw it all the way back to 2013. Destiny was delayed. most people had wondered why. Later, it was announced that Bungie and Activision had delayed it because they wanted to make it as best as possible. However, it was also announced there would be DLC, and they were titled "The Dark Below" and "The House Of Wolves".
Keep that in mind ^
It's June 2014 now. The alpha is available. Many, many players play it. They love it. They can't get enough of it. This was the game that was going to kill CoD. This was going to be the game of the decade.
It's July 2014 now. The beta is out. There are aspects that are in the beta that have never been seen before, particularly Iron Banner. Everybody loves it. Some get the "birth of history" spaceship as a drop. Bungie even announces that there would two unique emblems for playing the beta: "founders seal" and the "sign of the finite".
Things could not look better for Destiny players. This was our time.
It's September 2014. Destiny is out. We play it. We love it.
It's December 2014. The Dark below is finally available. We play it. We love it. The raid isn't best, but it's certainly a great aspect to the DLC.
It's January 2015. The House Of Wolves activities supposedly coming are all leaked. Everything. You name it. Weapons, Armor, story missions, strike missions, even the "raid" name.
"The Arena: Test Yourself."
Players are getting tired of Destiny. They are quitting. They want content.

Fast forward to 13 April 2015:
HoW prologue trailer released. Everybody, going crazy.
"I WANT HOUSE OF WOLVES"
"GIVE ME HOUSE OF WOLVES"
Hours later, Urk posted that there would be no raid activity in HoW:
"I'm done bungie. No raid = no more of my money being given to you"
"You lost me Bungie. Screw you".
I think what we're all missing is that Bungie is not to blame for this. And, surprisingly, I haven't even
seen the name "Activision" mentioned in any raging forum posts.
Guys. Do you not understand what is going on here?
Let me explain, in simple steps.
1. We buy the expansion pass.
2. Activision takes that money
3.They tell Bungie how much content to include in the DLC
4. Bungie announced there's no raid
5. Instead, Activision will sell us the SAME raid for more money, later in the year.
And you want to know what the player base is going to do?
They're going to keep playing this game. At least, the loyal ones will.
Activision, this has gone on for too long. your sotting of games, always thinking of money as the most important factor when publishing your games.
don't believe that it's activision's fault? check this out:
http://documents.latimes.com/bungie-activision-contract/
That outlines Activision's plan for Destiny. They sucked Bungie under their wrath. They brainwashed them.
Don't blame Bungie. Don't blame Urk. Don't blame Deej.
Blame their buddies, Activision.
-end rant.
-
You need to reread the contract because Activision has no creative control. It was Bungie's devs' decision to not include a raid. A raid would not have made much sense anyhow.
-
When I'm a video game designer, as long as I live, I WILL NEVER.....LET ACTIVISION TOUCH MY GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have already thought of everything about it in great detail, and I'm not going 2 say it until I get it copyrighted. I just don't want anyone stealing my idea. But I will say this: We will always think about THE GAMERS first, and not their wallets!!! Who's with me!?!?!?
-
Sorry you are wrong in my opinion. Bungie are to blame as they allowed Activision to do this. Bungie signed the contract so it's their fault.
-
Too much Tinfoil in here. Activision isn't ruling Bungie. They came to an agreement which you can see in the contract. Of course they planned DLC. And the raid coming later this year is not the same raid. That wouldn't even make sense. If there ever was going to be a raid for HoW, it was scrapped.
-
This guy gets it
-
Bump for the hell of it.
-
Some people are putting the blame on Bungie. Some people are blaming Activision. Simply put... the're both to blame. One hand washes the other and both wash the face.
-
FINALLY SOMEBODY WHO REALIZES WHAT THE FVCK WENT WRONG AND THAT ACTIVISION IS STOPPING THIS GAME FROM REACHING ITS FULL POTENTIAL
-
That's good reasoning, but if you really think about it prison of elders was probably the raid, it probably didn't fell like a raid so they called it something else. The raid was called the arena and PoE is basically a raid. It's just a theory but it makes since.
-
Very powerful contract. Activision has Bungie by the balls. If they thought Microsoft was bad, I feel like they're now seeing that Activision is way worse. Microsoft was about the player experience, but through the contract language it seems like Activision is all about the sales and DLC. I saw "DLC" and "Comet" multiple times in the Licensor Responsibility section. Here's the other Takeaways : 4 Destiny games 4 Comets in between them. Must maintain a Teen rating for all games ( though failure to do so wasn't A breach of contract ). DLC required between each Game and Comet Destiny 2 must be on Xbox 360, Xbox One and PS4. Possibility of Destiny 2 on PC. Activision approves all content. Bungie has very little say in it all. They just make it, and Activision can chop it into what they want us to see. Please don't expect anything except tight shooting mechanics. Because of Activision, we may never know what Destiny actually should have been. Bungie will never be the same again!
-
They're both to blame. Bungie chose their partners.
-
So you know the future plans for Bungie & activitons plans about destiny? Cool.
-
I'd rather have PoE and ToO than another raid. It adds some diversity to what players can do.
-
Been saying this since the " I'll sue " posts were around..
-
Why is everyone so mad at a profitable company being greedy. Wake up people, its called business and at least some of that greed will fuel future content & expansion of the product through the years. Honestly, everyone is acting like they are spending their life savings & getting nothing in return. The value we have gotten from the $40-$95 we spent on Destiny is absurd for those that still play. That being said, Im not happy about the corporate overlords pulling all the strings but I am also not ignorant to the fact that this is how the real world works & for all the hate they are taking, they have provided the financial backbone to produce & support one of the most addicting silky smooth FPS ive probably ever played despite its flaws.
-
Meh I doubt they have a raid for HOW to begin with. I don't think they even made one.
-
Nailed it.
-
Because strikes and crucible are lacking.
-
And I've always said it is activision. Somebody told me that I was stupid and that activision only funded the game...nothing else.
-
"The Real Reason Why There's No Raid In HoW! " Because they never planned one to begin with. People need to grasp that.
-
The second I found out they were tweaki g vog and crota for major bugs Since then I've known that a raid wasn't coming for a while.
-
Edited by Disco: 5/10/2015 5:57:43 PM
5. Instead, Activision will sell us the SAME raid for more money, later in the year.
lol No, OP. Don't like this post. I was pointing out your ignorance.
-
"We love it." Lost all credibility right there.
-
Get your facts straight rook. No one was impressed with the actual release or DB. Scrub confirmed
-
My thoughts are they never intended to have a raid with HoW. How do u think after so long of planning and building and designing the game they decided. Nah no raid we only have a few months quick reprogram and make a horde mode. I don't think so. I think it's been like this since day one, and by saying you get one at a later day is just there way of saying piss off till comet

Edited by iceflame3: 5/10/2015 5:23:57 PMAccording to a bungie employee on reddit, activision was really not to blame here.
